2016 for me, must be the most underrated Messi year ever. The greatest player in the world has played and performed consistently at his highest level throughout the year, he has racked up 59 goals (3rd best in his career) and 32 assists (2nd best in his career) in 62 appearances while helping Barca clinch a domestic double as well as having an amazing Copa America tournament despite the final loss. Yet the way some people talk you'd think Messi has gone trophyless and played worse than usual, which is simply ridiculous. Cristiano won the Ballon d'Or and will surely win FIFA's award for the best player of 2016 too, but for me, Messi is the most deserved winner. Cristiano has Eder and Ramos to thank for these awards because individually he hasn't been anywhere close to Messi in my opinion. But at the end of the day, Messi's quality and legacy is so much bigger than some balls made out of gold which is why I don't really care too much about individual awards. He's the greatest now and the greatest ever for me, which is all that matters.

Henrik Lehmann Well fucking said. The Ballon d'Or is supposed to be given to the best individual player(Although, giving out an award for an individual's performance in a team sport is kind of ridiculous). The fact is, Messi was the best player this season and yet, CR7 won becasue he won the UCL and Euros. He won an individual's award for winning 2 finals where in one, he had a poor performance and in the other, he got injured in the first half and was subsequently subbed off.

I don't know why, but I think that is the best video you've ever made, perfect video! :) And I totally agree with you concerning the awards and the year of Messi and Cristiano. I also don't really care about these awards but it annoys me a lot that so many football fans are blind. Just wanted to add 2 thing to this. They say Cristiano carried his team to the finals in Euro 2016 and Messi did nothing despite of missing a penalty. But Messi just did exactly the same and played waaay better. Secondly, for all the ones who think that Cristiano is better, just watch his match vs Kashima Antlers. That is the perfect description of him now. Couldn't manage to get past these japanese players who are barely on 2nd divison level in several 1v1 situations but somehow managed to score 3 goals and gets all the praise, so ridiculous. And then there are skills videos of him where 90% of his skills are worthless stepovers and after that normal passes to his teammates, that would be more helpful without the stepovers. People think we hate on him, but that's just the truth. For me, even this year, nobody was even close to Messi, he only had a short bad period in April I think, but the whole team was quite bad at that time.

And I totally agree with your comment, Messi had twice the Copa America compared to Cristiano's Euros, but because Argentina lost the final on penalties and Portugal won their final in extra time without Ronaldo, it was like Messi's never been worse while Cristiano could now be called the greatest ever according to the media. MK19 And that's exactly it, people think doing flashy pointless moves means you've got more skills, but these aren't skills, skills are things you possess that help you forward. Yes Ronaldo has more tricks (which is a skill), but what does he do with these tricks? Does it help his team/himself? No it doesn't. Is it nice to see for the fans? Maybe 2 times, but I don't think fans like players who use tricks with no point of going forward/not even going past a player. So many times I see Ronaldo do a stepover, followed by a no-look backheel to Marcelo. What's the point of that? And as you said, his match vs Kashima was the best example you could have, he did like 100 stepovers and none of them was useful, he even lost the ball a few times while trying to do stepovers. He also was very selfish, didn't pass in 3v1 situations (which led to Benzema being mad at him, however Ronaldo then got mad at Benzema for being mad at him for not passing the ball? Typical).
