At the time pirlo and scholes and schweinstieger were running midfields. So many great players all passing the ball forward. Trying to set up team mates. Messi completed more forward passes than they even attempted. It might not sound like much but that is a mind boggling stat. And it's only one of many that proves he's by far the goat.

This is what separates Pele and Maradona from Messi and C.Ronaldo for a lot of people. Pele and Maradona helped win their countries the biggest trophy in not just football, but all of sports. Idk if yall noticed or picked up on some things in this video... the dude he made fall was michael Boateng... at the time he was one of the best in the world. Messi bodied him and then scored. He's the only player that the opposing team cheers for him because they love soccer that much and appreciate that they get to see Lionel Messi play. Imo, he is the greatest athlete ever at his respective sport. Another cool thing is in the #3 goal video... he passes it off and the guy that receives the pass, just stands there and let's Messi take the ball and go. Also, against real Madrid, who at the time had an incredible defense. Sergio Ramos for example... he's the guy who falls over Messi as he's scoring. Messi is easily the GOAT. Ronaldo is good, but Messi is great. He doesn't have to do the step over flashy stuff Ronaldo does. He just runs by people.

In 1999 was his first knee injury, few months later that same knee literally exploded and he was out for almost 2 years. So in his best years, he was 19-23. This is pre prime years for athletes, so we never saw his prime. All I know is he scored 8 goals in the World Cup after he spend the last 3 years of his life in recovery. That being said, he was the first big superstar of modern football and changed the game. As far as your list, I’m not sure who voted for Ronaldinho as the best player in the 00s. He had very high but short prime. What Zidane did from 2000 to 2006 was definitely more impressive and of course Zidane was better player than Ronaldinho.
