@@hypello9534 When he did, he was actually immense and to be honest, it was not really that much choice in the defenders this world cup, I mean Van Dijk was better than he was at Liverpool this season but he didn't really do much in terms of a memorable performance, also Konate was actually I think unlucky that he wasn't picked enough because he is way better than Upamecano, the only thing that Upamecano has over Konate is availablity, also Saiss might have done really well for Morocco but I think the last few performances where he was basically on his last feet tainted his chances in my opinion and also wanted to limit the amount of players for each team as well, I don't think France's defense other than Konate didn't really well but it doesn't help when you got Mbappe who refuses to track back and help Hernandez, they were just lucky that England weren't proactive enough, Morocco was like Croatia from the end of the last world cup at the end and doesn't have that clinical striker and the other teams barring Argentina that actually did exposed France enough in my opinion (I don't really count Tunisia because they were already through to the knockouts).

We can agree that back in Pele's era, there was nobody that could hold a candle against him, he was miles ahead of his peers and opponents, which made him a legend of the game. Now, what makes Messi's achievements just slightly much greater than Pele's is that he had to keep reinventing his own style of play again and again and again, whilst competing against the Ronaldos, the Henrys, the Xavi/Iniestas,the Buffons, the Neymars, the Lewandowskis, the Benzemas and now the Mbappes and many more. In my humble opinion, a fruit that is obtained with little to no competition will always be of lesser worth than the fruit thats obtained with high competition.
