Whenever I hear a statement like that, I immediately get turned off and take a rejection to the player. I watched one game of his in Barcelona B, and he forever changed my mind. I knew he was different and I knew he would be better than Maradona. I played football, and I know the difficulties of the game, and this kid at 16 could do things that professionals at the highest level couldn't even do. I was a hardcore Zidane and then Ronaldinho fan, but when Messi came to light, he was the best in my opinion. From the start, even before his first professional goal. He didn't have to make 500+ goals, he didn't have to win the Champions League, he didn't have to win the Copa America, he didn't have to win the Olympics, he didn't have to win the World Cup. I don't think we should be saying either one is better...Maradona or messi. It's impossible to compare generations. What we can say is that both were the best of their generations. Messi is great, but there was a special aura about Maradona. He could fill stadiums even as a fat guy!
