I get what you mean, I felt the same way... but! But I remember one player name Zlatan. He came to MLS (LA Galaxy) for only a year and went back to European league (AC Milan) to retire in European league. Now, I'm just shooting in the dark, but what if Messi told Barca that, he'll go back to Barca in 24/25 season. Reduce his wage, start his kingdom in Miami and prep for Copa next year. After Copa is done, he'll come back to play for 1 year and retire. Barca/Laporta agree with deal and made viability plan to save some funding funding for next 24/25 season. Maybe that's why La Liga took longer than approve than normal to approve Barca's viability plan? Again, I just wild guessing.

The way I see it as much as a Messi return would be great, I think finding the right balance with him in the team would be the most difficult thing. If anything now we can focus on Gündogan, getting a proper right back, Iñigo Martinez, perhaps kimmich but that one is a long shot, maybe even a backup to lewandowski
