The genius stat in Messi's game (forget passing, finishing, speed, focus and balance for now), is his ability to dribble the ball around multiple players. In Messi's top 20 solo goals he dribbles the ball around a total of 65 players. That's an average of over 3 players per goal ranging from 2 to 6. I was being overly strict with Messi's goals if anything and I don't count a dummy that gets you half a meter space in which to shoot at the goal. I am only counting players that have been beaten to the point they are no longer able to affect the outcome. There isn't another player in the history of the game that has stats that you could realistically draw an good comparison from, I've looked! Ronaldo if you would believe only passes 3 on one occasion and 15 in total!
