He was the best player on the pitch and of the tournament by far. He also converted his penalty but his teammates came short. But haters and a certain fanbase used to give him so much sh*t for this and the next final. People acted like he was the reason for losing but he was the reason for Argentina making 3 consecutive finals. Glad he got his revenge and redemption in the latter years but those losses still hurt because he deserved those trophies and especially he did NOT deserve the insane criticism he received.

If there’s any copa America that messi deserved the most it’s definitely the 2016 one. 5 goals and 4 assists. Amazing individually with unparalleled dribbling and playmaking.
