Lionel/MTH O Gauge Layout Expansion Part 4!

A quick video going over the new elevated line being installed on the O gauge/scale layout! Some very cool pieces from TW Trainworx being installed! Menards Tubular track is being utilized for the upper loop with O54 curves.

Happy B-day to Tim. Enjoy the next 10 years. 60 sucks! I am building a 12x14 foot MTH layout. Using O72 and O82 track except one flat section that is O54. I used R&R Track design software to design it. Works perfect. I have some 3% grades. That works out to approximately 5/16 inch rise per foot of track. I used MTH double track bridges and some Lionel single track bridges. I used 1/4 inch sanded plywood for the grade sections approaching bridges.

The new layout looks great! I've got very similar layout constraints which are the space limitations and the doorwall. Thank you for showing me how to overcome these issues. You've inspired me to move from an overly complex track plan design with many tight curves and grades in 031 to 3 loops in 072, 054 & 042. Your videos are as inspirational as they are informative. Looking good Zack, the upper track with the railing really looks good and you picked the right color. As far as the swing bridge goes you can dress that up in the future if you want. Take the OT when you can get it, it don't last for ever.

Really like the elevated trestle that you are doing! I have been thinking about doing the same thing on my layout. I am using two mth arch bridges and two girder bridges followed by the tw trainworx trestle girders on the rest of the elevated lines. I plan on keeping the height to match the mth piers.

Zach, I am in awe of that bridge and the color is beautiful, really gives it a rusty red look from a distance. I have really been implementing a lot of your design ideas into my layout, especially for my upper loop levels and creating girder rails and bridges is something I am now going to look into adding at some points on the layout. The layout is really coming together and the feel is much greater in size, to my eye, then what you have added in floor plan. I can already see a bustling city scape in my head and I can’t wait to immerse myself into it. I can’t tell you how many times I have redone my track plans because of something else I see and love, but that’s the fun part...I’m not building quite yet, so I have the time to figure it out before I build. Keep on chugging along my friend, you’re doing an awesome job and you are inspiring others while also helping to build and grow this hobby. Until next time, stay safe and happy railroading!

Then I will take the 072 and reuse it to replace the 054 on the inside main. My update will not be as easy since I use all Gargraves track. Everything has to be custom cut and fit except for the curves. I will start putting up videos next week
