Apparently the H10 wasn't supposed to have the swinging bell effect. Lionel claimed it was a typo but added it in anyways. I honestly just found out. Great review and I'm looking forward to more.

Correction needed Eric ** Whistle steam smoke fluid actually gets added to the whistle steam outlet hole.** The whistle detail is removable to make access this opening easier. Good review as usual nontheless.

Hey Eric, great review as usual! I'm a huge fan of yours, and am a long time subscriber. I've watched all your videos going back for years. And I love how your layout has progressed thru the years. There's one thing I wish to see on your layout. A railroad crossing! With flashing lights and all! And would love to see you make a video on the install. Keep up the good work!

It used to not be an expensive hobby unless of course if it was Lionel. I have been in it since 1965 when I got my fist train HO scale and I was seven and I have been purchasing my own stuff for the train set. My Grandfather told me if you want more cars and accessories you got to earn your own money. Which I did working for my grandfather in his sandblasting business until I went into the Navy in 1977. Since then It has gone stupid expensive where you pretty much have to be a millionaire nowadays to have a decent layout even with scratch building stuff yourself.a lot of the price rise is due to the high price of oil which plastic is made from.
@Ericstrains5 жыл бұрын
If you're modeling in the more toy-like O-27 type trains, it's not as expensive and is fairly close the same price it's always been...when accounting for inflation. It's only the upper end of the hobby, with the fine scale models and cutting edge features, that gets really expensive. One of these days I'm going to do a video showing the prices from the 50's and the prices from now with inflation adjustments. Should be an interesting video.

Thanks for the informative video Eric. Lionel did a nice job on the engine and I like that they decided to darken the valve gear which, in my opinion, looks much more prototypical especially for a freight engine. I also like the low sided tender your model has. I do agree with you that Lionel may have recycled an older model as their base for this engine. I am pretty certain that, in real life, the boiler used on the H10 was also used on the E6 Atlantic and the G5 4-6-0's. Thanks again.

@TomedysTrains5 жыл бұрын
Happy St. Patrick's Day Eric! The price is fair for sure on this model based on what features it has. Although the swinging bell feature is not necessary on this locomotive and I wish Lionel knew that. Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotives from the 20th Century didn't have swinging bells, hence the lack of a bell cord on them, even on this model. If Lionel didn't make the swinging bell on this locomotive, they could've shaved another $50.00 off of the MSRP and the locomotive would've been more prototypical.
@ricko32425 жыл бұрын
The swinging bell is the least of the " non prototypical" issues with this loco. Rather its a feature that helps the purchaser overlook the incorrectly shaped belpaire firebox, too long boiler, too long wheelbase, and of course the silver smokebox is incorrect as well and Lionel could have spent an extra nickle and added glass to the windows. The H10 is actuallly a rerelease of Lionels TMCC H9 ( thus the builders plates) from 2001. The TMCC H9 as well as this Legacy H10 are really a stretched pennsy style boiler over Lionels NYC consolidation chassis. Not bashing the loco, I bought one, added my own windows. Its fun, just not a very accurate model of an H9 or 10, if thats waht your looking for.
@Blougon4 жыл бұрын
The H10 had the same whistle steam effect and the swinging bell features just like the 4-6-4 hudson.
@willhorowitz88065 жыл бұрын
I love the PRR and this is a fantastic model, but there are three things I want to acknowledge. First of all Lionel made a marketing mistake. The H10 locomotives were all numbered 7000 and above since they were built for Lines West. Your locomotive is 1288 which is a Lines East number making it an H9. To further prove my point the builders plate says H9. The other thing is the pilot is wrong, they had footboards not a slated pilot. Also I don’t think the bells on PRR locomotives built after 1910 swung. Those built previous were modified with an internal ringer. Other than that it is an awesome model.

Another nice review ! One thing I did notice, Eric, was that you said to load smoke fluid into the smoke stack for both that and the whistle steam. On my Western Alleghany version that I need to load fluid into both the whistle port and the stack. It is a nice running/sounding model !

Mainly because I've been modeling HO Scale for over 20 years and your videos are SERIOUSLY making me consider selling all of my HO scale stuff, so I can try to afford to start collecting O scale. Of course, the costs rise exponentially if I were to switch scales! But, thanks for posting such awesome videos. Definitely some of the best model railroading review videos on KZbin.

Too bad I don't have enough money for one of these, nor do I have the tracks. On30, on the other hand... I'd like one of those D&RGW 2-6-0s. (PS, i'd prefer if more lionel pennsy engines had 3 chimes and such, the higher pitched banshee hooters sound odd on engines like this one)
@ricko32425 жыл бұрын
The whistle is accurate for a PRR H10.
@damonsmith93203 жыл бұрын
Just a personal opinion here, for an engine like that, the whistle is too shrill. It needs something like an Ashton 6 inch 3 chime or a Great Northern 5 chime. Still a nice model!

Is there a particular reason why they put the traction tire on the rear-most drive wheel? If it doesn't matter, it would bug me that it's not one the main driver - the wheel that the piston rod actually connects to.

The one thing about this release that confuses me is the smoke box looking a lot closer to white than a graphite color. Very jarring on an otherwise stunning model.

I got it on the tracks and was bummed the motherboard in the tender was totally bad - no LCS, no Coupler, no wireless tether, no sound, I tried it on other engine to no avail.
