I liked his quip about the upside-down cake :) I'm English so had only seen very fleeting appearances by, and references to, him in films etc. until I saw a bit more of him on KZbin in recent years. He was a very funny guy, top rate.

Loved this song when first came out, I had just brought my first car and I drove to top of mountain with my friend, we were singing all the lyrics . I suddenly realized brakes weren’t working correctly. I slowed down to a minimum around all the curves and we made it safely to the bottom! Can u imagine what I said to the dealership!!! I was soft spoken but not about this. Got new brakes, was happy, but today would have been a law suit? Selling a car with defective brakes!!! Who knew back then. Thankful we survived the 1970’s! Thx 4 reading…

I was born in “76” so I remember Lionel’s music as part of my childhood. When my aunts and uncle’s would talk about a party they’d gone to the night before, they would say “man we was dancing on the ceiling.” It was all part of the 80’s culture. This type of fun just doesn’t exist anymore.

Lionel Richie was at the top of the charts when a girl was born in my family. She's turning 41 and the music is just as great now as it was then. One of the greatest artists of that era. What a spectacular voice he has. Love the upbeat music that was great for dance and romance.

IIRC, this video was inspired by the late Fred Astaire, God rest his soul, who, in one of his movies WAS dancing on the ceiling. If I also remember correctly, Fred was dancing on a ceiling that was actually on the floor and it was made to look like he was dancing on the ceiling. Also, in the movie Easter Parade, Fred was dancing slowly in one scene and the people behind him in that same scene was dancing at normal speed in the same scene.

Christopher Nolan used similar setups for "Inception," I think. There was also a sci-fi movie called "Upside Down" a while ago. 2012, I think? Twin planets, gravity reversed, something like that. And getting two sets of dancers, with one upside down, in the same shot, isn't rocket science: it's a composite shot.
