The only parts that look familiar to the vintage version is it still has an aluminum frame and the the trucks are cast. Oh yes, the body shell is like. 😊 Thank you for sharing your experience.

I really like that F3 the color is fantastic.I have a Santa Fe F3 Lionchief Plus 2.0 and it runs well.

Really nice set. I have the Williams Western Pacific F3 AA set. I have noticed that it has a different cab design than my postwar Santa Fe F3s. The front windshields are much larger, and I like the orange colored paint better on the Lionel model.

Hello Beautiful Lionel Western Pacific F3s. I wanted to ask for your help I recently bought a 3100 Lionel Northern Pacific Steamer with tender from Facebook Market Place made around 1980. I tried running it for the first time but every time I apply power the locomotive shorts out my transformer. I have the sound tender hooked up right to locomotive. But I notice the copper strip on tender axle not making contact to tender axle, I think that activates the sound. I don't want to take this apart. I want to ship this to you to see if you can fix it? I will pay for shipping and labor and parts?

Thanks, but I’m not able to currently do repairs at a commercial level. I can, however, offer a few suggestions. First, just put the locomotive on the track without the tender. This will help find out where the short is located. If the locomotive cycles the e unit without tripping the breaker, we can focus on the tender.

@@modeltrainsolutions7368 Okay thank you for your suggestions, the locomotive still trips breaker without tender or with tender. I decided to sell this on ebay as needing repair, looks like been used but not much wear on contact rollers or wheels. If your interested I have currently listed on ebay I would accept $150 for it and I would consider $130

You never oil the armature contact plate. It will mix with the carbon dust and make a conductive, gummy paste.

That is the Atlas Conductive lubricant/cleaner that evaporates. I’ve not had any issues with it in the past, but will definitely consider that for future projects. Thanks!

Looks nice but for me is only this . I definitely prefer an used an in good condition a Santa Fe F3, specifically the 2343. Of 1953.

Love that one too…the SF warbonnet paint scheme was such a staple in Lionel’s history.
