I love the mother's attitude in this story. She always saw the glass as being half full, never accepted a poverty mentality and always gave the glory back to the Lord.

By far one of the best Christmas movies ever made. Charles Bronson's legacy is solid with the film. I watch it almost every year to see how well it is all put together and remember the vital answer given. I do need to spend more time remembering how the people in the film are acting after real people. With such great performances it is easy for me to forget this based on actual suffering humans.

Very moving film. Most enjoyable role I've ever seen Bronson play. Jesus is the reason for the season, but I think the spirit of Santa exudes His spirit of giving and caring.

Remember seeing this before. Is this a reupload? Man, this is something else. Wonderful, enjoyable, unforgettable, and memorable. Charles Bronson really did good in playing a reporter who had lost a wife and baby. It's not Deathwish. He's not killing anybody in this film. This is right up there with Home Alone, The Preacher's Wife, It's a Wonderful Life, and Miracle on 34th Street. It's great. Merry Christmas.

I have always loved this movie since it first came out. When I was younger and way before the movie came out Every Christmas morning in the newspaper there was a full page print of the letter to the editor Is there a Santa Clause and then the response from the newspaper reporter. I don’t know if they still do it as I have moved away 34 years ago.

People have continually questioned if this letter was actually written by the girl Virginia. Many believe that the newspaper had this planned and had given a copy of the letter to girl’s father. He just had her copy it in her own writing and mail it back. I can’t remember what connection her father had to the paper. I think he was a long time advertiser. Anyway, the letter included the newspapers motto and was basically an endorsement. And the girl talks about older children by referring to them as “her little friends“ which doesn’t make sense. The father and daughter always insisted that she wrote the letter.

If it was staged then all the better to bring such good fruit to the world through such an awkward method. There is no downside if it was staged, the family would have been paid reasonably for it, and it was not like they thought it was last for going on near hundred years. It would be to make a splash get the clicks and on to the next story. But instead they hit gold in the human heart. Be it real or given a little help, we are all better off for knowing it. How much actually happens the way we are told it happens to begin with? Think about that!
@deenababie10 ай бұрын
The real Virginia always stated she had been the writer of the letter.
@shorty736310 ай бұрын

This was a beautifully done movie! The only thing I don't understand is why it flashed up 1991 at the beginning. It's CLEARLY not! Actually it's 1897 because the gravestone read December 25, 1896 and Francis' boss said he had lost his wife and daughter less than a year before. The movie was made in 1991, but they put it on the screen as if that's the year this story takes place in.😂 Anyway, other than that little blunder it was a wonderful movie, a real humdinger!😘 Thank you for the upload.🎄❤️💚🧑🎄

I’m not going to watch any more of this movie. I’ve just watched until that man fell into the water and the hateful little girl was talking to Virginia and it makes my heart hurt too bad 💔💔💔💔💔I’d rather read O’Ye Jigs and Julips written by her when she was about 7 years old. I’ve already read it at least 10 times and have given I don’t know how many copies of the book 📕 to my friends. It’s a wonderful book and it makes my heart ❤️ happy 😊 and not sad. I hate to not read it because Charles Bronson is one of my favorite actors. He had a wonderful marriage to Jill Ireland.

Such a beautiful movie, and I really enjoyed it and was touched by it. But upon doing some research, I was dismayed to find that most of it (except for the basic facts) was fiction. Virginia's father was actually a surgeon, so it's highly unlikely they were living in poverty. And Frank Church's wife, Elizabeth, actually outlived him by 6 years. He died in 1906, she died in 1912. Seems the only thing that's factual is that Virginia did write the letter because her father's response to her question didn't satisfy her, and Church did write the response, which by the way, was published in September, not on Christmas, although it was eventually reprinted every Christmas because of its popularity.

Ugh at the fact that Church’s wife never died. He actually had no children and certainly not a dead baby to visit at a grave. Further, Virginia’s father was actually a surgeon. What’s with the sappy dead spouse and baby anyway?! Richard Thomas with a fake Irish accent is beyond silly and instead of making him play the role true to character as a surgeon as the real Dad was, it makes me wonder if Thomas is more comfortable wearing rags and suspenders vs. hospital scrubs. Virginia died in Valatie, New York and that is near where I live. It is sad no one has ever made a movie about the way it all REALLY went down.
