I love that final look of the black jade you found. I found a nice cobble near Entiat along the Columbia River that I polished, very similar looking, yours has a little more waxyness to the underlying texture -the spots, mine is a little more crystalline, not transparent at all. Seeing it faceted like you have done would be incredible. What a jewel. Thanks for sharing.

Oh that’s just beautiful. I collected some Jade at Big Sur but they are small ones. I’m in love with the rock. Hopefully one day I can take a trip up there. Would you please share the location? Also, may I ask if you took lessons in faceting? And if yes, where? Or would you perhaps be interested in teaching some day? Thanks so much for sharing. More power to your channel.

Something I’ve always wondered is how do you ensure on an oval stone that all the facets on the same tier are the same angle. It seems like as you move around the stone you would need to raise and lower the faceting head on the mast to cut to the same angle. Obviously I’m missing something since the faceting videos I’ve watched never seem to address that.

Andy Henderson the protracted angle as you go around the oval does change to compensate for the shape of the stone for example on this stone I used angles from 38 degrees all the way up to 58 degrees to compensate

Andy Henderson each time the angle changes you raise or lower the mast to take tiny cuts working up to the point your facets have the perfect meet point

Chris, is "Cerimium oxide" (the polishing product you mentioned) the same as "cerium oxide"? I am learning all this and feel like I'm drinking from a firehose, so much to learn! I am so grateful for your videos, I thirst for this knowledge.

Ricky Baker you are correct. Referring to this as a rose cut was an easy way to create a visual of the finished product - another description could be “facet top” cab. in this occasion I deceived to leave a large table instead of a CP.

It was originally built in the 1950’s by a local machinist - he used it until the 1980’s and it sat for many years before I got it maybe 4-5 years ago - it was pretty nasty and I had to rebuild a lot of it including the electrical . No factory spare parts- I had to learn to machine my own using a lathe - the design is roughly based off an MDR machine

Ricky Baker it’s a very accurate machine! I had to make another collet for the quill it only took. 1/4 inch dops. Before I got my concave faceting machine I built my own gemstone milling machine . I love doing this stuff
