Oh great Cthulu, 4:10 and following. When that started with "bring me a chaste and an unchaste girl, I want to sit them on a barrel of wine", my ankles crossed via instinct, but I didn't think it'd get quite so insane. Not sure what I was supposed to learn from that, but what I *did* learn was: "sex ed in schools, no discussion, or else you'll have man walking around who believe that a woman's vagina is directly connected to her digestive tract. Or possibly her ears." Well, it certainly answers the question "why laugh at religion".

Yeah, it's a cultural thing - to find a not hard-subbed video in Israel is near to impossible. Even kids, who make films in high-school, hard-sub their creations.

The idea is context, and if I remember correctly, the Rabbi was speaking of a bullet contextually. The solution is for so called “traitors” and therefore is death.

“in the year of our Lord -” is a very common saying in English, aiming to emphasize the year. Americans use it even if they're not Christian at all.

16th century BCE means like, even before Shulchan Aruch came out (imagine its author's reaction if the book had come out ....) I'm pretty sure in 16th century BCE is a bit of a stretch... Judaism (as in the receiving of the covenant and the 10 commandments) was later on, wasn't it? And while Shulchan Aruch is not women-friendly at all, back then, in the 16th century bce, there were actual goddesses... Maybe paganism was better all along (sans the whole human sacrifice and culture appropriation that there are nowadays). Hebreites/Hebrews/Israelites probably chilled in Egypt or smth, worshipping some good ol' beetles like everyone probably did there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

More correct to translate 'הדתה' as 'missionary' than 'religication'.

Ah, not completely, given that missionary is to turn someone of different religion to your religion (like Roman Catholics did in pagan Europe)

@@gpolonetsky the direct translation will still be הגתה given the fact it had the religion root. I think they tried to get the message across. I know the word הדתה but had I seen missionary without knowing what it meant I'd be thinking of the Catholic missionaries. They make something more religious leaning/add religious content and less the whole preaching thing, with which the word missionary is more linked to. Religication is a compound word of religion and education, but also since "cation" suffix is related to a process/action or the result of it, it fits like - personification האנשה . With the word אנוש human in it → the action of giving human traits to a thing that isn't human. Duplication means to double something הכפלה so basically, it can be both meanings, either the process of making something more religious leaning, or the compound word religion+education.

עם רשימת הערכים הזדהתי. אבל לא הסברת במה אתה יהודי. אין יחודיות יהודית בערכים האלה, ואפילו לא חילונית לדעתי. פשוט ערכים אנושיים. אפשר גם להמציא ערכים. לא לרצוח ראשי ממשלה. לא לסקול באבנים. לא לדקור הומואים. זה לא ממש קשור לדתיות. דתי אנושי אכן לא יקבל אמצעים כאלה בשם הדת. חילוני לא אנושי, יכול לעשות את אותן פעולות בשם ערכים חילוניים. כמו לאומנות או קומוניזם. הקצנה דתית. כלומר (לדעתי), נקיטת אמצעים לא אנושיים במטרה לכפות את האידאולוגיה הדתית, ברור לכל אדם שהיא פסולה. מה בין זה להנחת תפילין ולימוד תנ"ך ותלמוד? חשוב ללמוד וללמד את המסורת היהודית העשירה. אבל עם ביקורת תמידית מדעית ומתקדמת. אבל פסילת היהדות לחלוטין, בעיני זה לשפוך את התינוק עם האמבטיה. בלי קשר לכך, לדעתי לא הדת הבעיה של האנשים האלו. אלא שהם לא למדו להעביר ביקורת. התנ"ך דוקא מאוד ביקורתי. התלמוד לא מקבל שום הנחות יסוד, ותמיד מנסה לבדוק את ה"איפכא מסתברא". חשוב פשוט לא לעצור את הביקורתיות ברמה שהיתה לפני אלף שנה, ולהמשיך איתה.
