Brilliant. Explained fairly simply, with lots of hints to the underlying complexity. The comment at the ending about audio being underrated in videogames (and other media too, I'add) is especially on point. Thank you for all your work, Mr. Haken.

My take is that the general purpose computer, over time, is going to get more and more bogged down over time as the user installs and updates more software, runs more and more programs at the same time, hooks up more peripherals, and so on. Even if you never hit those limits, just the fact that you know you COULD can be a source of stress in the back of your mind. So a dedicated processor that does ONE THING is something from which you know what to expect, and you never have to think about it sharing resources with anything else.
