Good luck with the February bar! I took the bar in October as well and passed it (in another state) and will always feel fiercely loyal and sympathetic to anyone else who had to take it this year and didn’t pass. No one out there except our class of 2020 law school graduates will ever understand how terrible our situation was and how many people who would’ve passed in “regular” years were negatively impacted and failed as a result of factors beyond their control. It’s upsetting to see that “attorneys” were leaving rude comments on your last video...like wow, you all were nowhere to be found when we were trying to advocate for diploma privilege earlier this year but now here you all come to offer your “wisdom” and hot takes. Like no thanks. Anyways sorry for rambling, but I wish you the best of luck and I know you’ll kill it in February!

Hi Grace, I've been following your channel since you started your bar exam journey and I also took the Oct exam (in another state), but I am still waiting for my results (so I'm terrified all day everyday, lucky me). The Oct test was my third attempt, so I truly feel your pain. I've felt all of the emotions: embarrassment, shame, imposter syndrome, incompetence, you name it. You might feel you have to do everything over again, and in some ways you do, but you won't be learning and practicing from scratch. You're gonna be doing it it with experience. Grace, I really think that you need to handle your depression and anxiety, irrespective of the bar exam. I also have clinically-diagnosed anxiety which I manage through psychiatry, psychotherapy, meditation, sleep, proper nutrition, and, most importantly, EXERCISE. So, instead of just jumping back into bar prep mode and doing the same things that you did before, change things up a bit by incorporating sleep (at least seven hours EVERY night) and by incorporation routine exercise, totally about 150 minutes per week of moderately strenuous exercise. This will improve your mental acuity! I promise, Grace. Hang in there! We will both "knock out" the February 2021 bar exam!

@TheKiaraFlantroy4 жыл бұрын
Hey, I’m not Grace, but I hope this helps. The MPT is what they called a “closed universe.” So typically with bar exam essays (and the law school essays for the most part) you use any and all outside knowledge you have to answer the questions. So anything from real life statutes, laws, case law, etc. With MPTs they give you all of the law you can use and all of the cases that you can use. So it’s all made up (even if it’s structured after real case law, statutes, etc.) You’re not supposed to use any additional knowledge or information outside of what is given to answer the questions.

You mention that you are still working doing “non-attorney duties” since you didn’t pass the bar exam. So does that mean you were not hired as an attorney because you had not yet taken the bar? Is that standard or something that is specific to real estate law?
@ChristophProbst4 жыл бұрын
That is pretty standard. Because of the pandemic, New York law grads could practice law under the supervision of an attorney. However the provisional license to practice law is automatically revoked upon certain conditions, one of those being failing the bar exam. This means prior to finding out she failed, she could practice law at the office she was working at. Now she cannot practice law, but she can work as a paralegal until she passes. Law offices often hire law grads and let them work as paralegals or clerks until they pass.

MPT is only 20% ... Focus on more mbe and essay questions. MPT is gives u all the law and facts. If u know how to write a memo u can do an MPT. So at least 10 practice MPTs are enough. Focus on building ur mbe and mee scores. If u got 140s in mbe and 4s to 5s on mee then ur mpt is irrelevant.
@adasandoval34994 жыл бұрын
20% is still a big chunk. Writing a memo in timed conditions is extremely difficult for some people. Practicing the MPT in timed conditions just a couple of times can really improve performance on the MPT. Meanwhile it's harder to increase performance on the MBE. The MEEs are kinda just luck. Especially in the October bar when we only got 3.

@@CookieGirl88890 following a prep course is pretty helpful but modify it to fit your progress. It got harder to focus as time passed. Part of the challenge is just being able to focus for an hour and a half. Build up stamina. Just make sure you review your answers with the MBE questions too and be harsh with your scoring.

I'm guessing the tasks include preparing all the paperwork, making sure the money's there, title searches, HUD statements, etc.

@@aalegalfocus thank you for being so informative. I’m just so dumbfounded because I didn’t know it was possible to work for a law firm and have a 9-6 schedule like grace does. All the law firm lawyers I’ve researched work 70+ hours a week. Can u explain if there a difference in jobs ? Thank u!

@@s.n.2744 yes, there's a definitely a huge difference in jobs-- pay, hours & duties, depending on what type of law firm or government agency people work for and what area of law they practice. I explain some of it in a video on my channel about different practice areas that are good for solo attorneys, as well as a video about big law vs mid law vs small law.

I commend your public effort to heal and overcome your recent setback. Taking the bar during the Covid epidemic was highly artificial. I am glad you are in a flexible job situation for now. I would like to offer a suggestion for you to consider. I know you took one of the rather expensive review courses. I used an online course called Celebration Bar review. I did it while working full time, and 40 years out of law school. The folks were very helpful, and focus on passing the bar (and not writing law review articles). Check them out and see if its a fit for you. Good luck, don't despair!
