LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT - The Passage Of Time (OFFICIAL VIDEO)
Video by Christian Rios
Order the new album "LTE3" Now:
liquidtensione...
LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT, the legendary supergroup comprised of Mike Portnoy (Transatlantic, Sons of Apollo), John Petrucci (Dream Theater), Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), and Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel) recently announced their return with a new album titled ‘LTE3’, due to be released April 16th, 2021 via InsideOutMusic, twenty-two years after the bands’ last studio album.
"’The Passage of Time’ was the very first song we composed together when we reunited this past summer. It was so exciting to be back in a room creating together again after so long (22 years for all 4 of us and over 10 years for the 3 of us since being together in DT).
This serves as a great first taste for the listeners as it combines so many of the musical elements that makes LTE unique"
-Mike Portnoy
“This was the first song we worked on and when it was done, we all knew once again how amazing it was to be working together. We knew we were on to something and that this was going to be a really amazing album. Nothing about the passage of over two decades could’ve done anything to change that. To me this song truly reflects the collaborative songwriting efforts of all four of us.”
-John Petrucci
There is an undeniable chemistry that happens when the four of us are together. Entering the studio and starting work on ‘The Passage of Time’ after 22 years literally gave me a whole new perspective on these important musical (and personal) relationships and the way time is so relative. We just jumped right in, it was like no time had passed at all, and we created a song that has so many of the elements that make LTE unique. Not a day has gone by since our last release when I wasn’t asked, “When is LTE getting back together again?” Now we can finally deliver, and I can’t wait for everybody to hear our creation.”
-Jordan Rudess
“From the murky depths of the lockdown, LTE has re-emerged, galvanized, dripping with ideas, and taking no prisoners. ‘The Passage of Time’ is just the beginning.”
-Tony Levin
Available in these following formats:
•Limited deluxe hot pink 3LP+2CD+Blu-ray Box Set (incl. a poster and 4 artcards, Blu-ray incl. a 5.1 surround mix with visuals, and full band interview from the studio)
•Limited 2CD+Blu-ray Artbook
•Limited 2CD Digipak
•Gatefold black 2LP+CD
• Digital album (2CD)

It's so funny that you say that. Listen to really old DT, WDaDU, IaW, Awake, ACoS, FII, all of which were pre-LTE... then listen to SFaM, and everything after that which was all post-LTE. There's a clear difference and, yes, Jordan joining the band was a huge factor. But there was also the fact that the band just stopped caring about pleasing the studios and just did whatever the hell they wanted. DT was reborn after LTE... and became more popular as a result.

I had just stepped my first foot into college when I listened to LTE 1. Now after 22 years with couple of diplomas, a career, a marriage, children and after having completely losing touch with my younger more adventurous self, you guys have brought back the dormant metalhead genes that were hiding somewhere deep. Thanks for letting me become the 18 year old fool who had no plans other than becoming a metal musician. Thanks for doing it for me. Love you guys.

Nothing against Mangini, but his drums never sounded right to me. In their first album the whole mix was terrible, not just the drums, but in their newer stuff it sounds like he has always sounded, from when he was touring with steve vai through james labrie’s first solo album. He has reverted to his preferred sound, snd i much prefer the way Portnoy tunes his kit.
@jbmusicman1
@jbmusicman1 3 жыл бұрын
@@HNedel Yes, his pre production decisions combined with post production decisions made for a horrible overly compressed sound. His drums are tuned so low that they all sound the same. Even the octobans don't sound right. It's a mess and it's a shame because he's an amazing player and an even better guy to hang out with. The last album (D.O.T.) showed some hope but they're still not right which tells me they're making them sound that way on purpose.

@@Vincegpz500 Whoa, Vinny! May I call you you Vinny? Lol But seriously, I’m actually not even a fan of Dream Theater, either with Portnoy or Mangini. I discovered LTE by youtube algorithm and it went from there. The algorithm was very accurate, because since I first heard Acid Rain some 5-6 years ago, I’ve been hooked. Not only that, I’ve since gotten an appreciation for DT. I knew who John Petrucci is from his G3 days. I knew of Tony from King Crimson. I’d heard of Mike Portnoy, but not Jordan. But being a drummer when I was a younger, Mike Portnoy struck me as phenomenal, many similarities to Neil. I later checked out DT, with both Mikes. Mike Mangini is a killer drummer. I’ll concede that he gets a bad rap. Maybe I’m wrong, but I feel like DT should’ve followed Portnoy’s lead, and gotten away from vocals. Instrumentals are their niche. John Myung would be fine on bass, and Mangini would be fine on drums, but LTE is who they are. I understand your annoyance. But we’re on the same side ultimately. We just have a difference of opinion. And I get it with personnel changes. When Kenny first joined The Who, I declared they should be called: “The What The Fuck Was That!” Lmao! Nah, jis kiddin! Point taken. 🤙

Mike stays busy with LTE, Neal Morse Band, Sons of Apollo, and Transatlantic, (and hopefully new Flying Colors and Winery Dogs). Keeps his chops in very good shape.

How is John Petrucci able to record three albums at the same time with Dream Theater, Liquid and his own solo project??? Incredible musicians!

I answer just easily. Because of Portnoy creativity. Just so is possible ,seeing how many collaborations does Portnoy is a gold egg’s chicken

Mike Portnoy recorded this with LTE, John Petrucci's solo album, and also a double full prog/rock album with Transatlantic, so it's a tie

The part by Rudess starting around 5:47 is SO GOOD! The fact that he can basically sound so convincingly like an orchestra in real time (partially because of his ability to choose such amazing chord voicings) is... 🧠💥🙌

@@davidderoux7552 Definitely sounds like the same (or a similar) keyboard orchestra patch, absolutely. Jordan finds such great sounds, befitting such a great player.

I feel LTE brings out the best in John. His creativity and technicality are just turned up a notch. Like he’s more free to experiment, due to the nature of the band and it’s style of music.

I’d say it also has a lot to do with him and Portnoy’s chemistry. Also chemistry with rudess and Levin too. But then two have been playing together since their teens. They’re just bloody brilliant together

It's true but DT are only a place that stifles such creativity because they've made themselves that way. They need Portnoy back, and not necessarily because of his drumming, but his overall presence and contribution

Totally agreed, even when they still had Portnoy on DT it felt like he was becoming somewhat one dimensional as time went on. I really missed the more eclectic JP that comes out on LTE and i'm super happy to see that once again.
