im very glad to have found your video. Gouache has always been my favourite medium as i cared about color value shift, it doesnt happen with gouache. (thanks to you i know how to address this in english now) I used to call this the bittering of the acyrlic colors when dry, cos they were more chemical...(this was my ignorant interpretation) thank you

Thanks QOX! Glad you find it useful. "Bittering of the acrylic" is actually a good way to say it. I know it makes me bitter! These paints are the happy middle ground between gouache and acrylic.

I was advised not to mix Gouache with water. Could that have caused the shine? I saw that you added water.

Gouache is made to mix with water. I rarely mix it anything else. Water does not cause a shine.

Looks like they dry to fast for me. Nice deep colors, though.

They dry very fast. You can use Acrylic Retarder Medium to slow down the drying time if needed.

After this test, would you use these or stay with Holbein? I love the bottles of this line - seems very convenient.

I quite happy with the Holbein Acryla Gouache and see no need to switch, but the new Liquitex Gouache seems excellent also. One thing I didn’t like with the Liquitex is the glossiness when applied thickly. This makes them look like acrylic and I think the whole point of them being promoted as gouache is undermined by this quality. I will use the Liquitex paint for larger works on canvas and continue using the Holbein for journaling and works on paper. Non-glossiness is very desirable on anything that needs to be scanned.

I use both - Holbein and Liquitex. Both are excellent. Not sure that I have a preference. One thing I like about the Holbien Acryla Gouache is that they come in tubes - big and small tubes and so they are portable - great for field work or plein air painting. The Liquitex jars are away too large to do on-location painting, so I use them mostly in the studio.

No advantage over acrylics, if they are drying same time , except for opacity

There are two advantages over regular acrylics: opacity as you mentioned, and very important to me is the fact they dry the very same value and color as when they are wet. Some acrylics have a major shift from wet to dry.

@@BillSingleton Thank you....for your reply...I wish there was water based paint, drying after 2hr, light fast like oils , opaque ..tried water mixable oils but it's bit lumpy and difficult to blend too..I want to paint 30minutes everyday after work....that's why this requirement..Thanks again for reply🙏
