Just want to clarify that at 20:18 I am holding my breath. Deliberately inhaling concentrated paints, solvents, etc. can be dangerous and potentially fatal. The footage was included just to fill space and illustrate what I was saying. Fresh air is the best air to breathe! If the weather permits, it’s a great idea to open your windows while painting :)

Thank you very much for your thorough review, which confirmed what I suspected already, and is the reason why I haven't bought them yet. They don't seem to live up to my expectations of acrylic gouache. It's not to say that they are bad paint, I'm sure they aren't. And your paintings are absolutely beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

The black in the Liquitex Gouache is the one that Mike from Jerry’s Artorama specifically called out as being not worthy of the name. I’ve been meaning to do some swatching of all my acrylic blacks for comparison.

The black was definitely not the best. I was a little disappointed with Liquitex on this one. I liked this paint, but I didn't love it. I usually love their products. I hope they make some improvements to the formula, because I think it has a lot of potential. I was actually thinking of doing a side by side of all my black acrylic swatches in this video, but I cut it out because the video was getting kind of long. I should have kept that part :) Of my acrylic gouache swatches, the Acryla by Holbein is the darkest, deepest black. The SoFlat is a bit lighter, but it is the most matte and flat. Good video! Did you shake them well? There's a little ball in there that mixes the gouache.

To be honest, I don't remember. I usually mix or shake all my paints before I use them , so I think I probably did. But I can't say for sure. I didn't know that any of the Liquitex paints had a mixing ball in them! That's very interesting. I looked in mine, but I couldn't see or hear a ball. Maybe the batch I got was different from yours?

I’m surprised you didn’t mention or rate the packaging as you did mention that at the beginning with the so flat and the tubes. Personally I do not like the packaging on these Liquitex paints because the tips get quickly and easily clogged.

I prefer tubes too. The tips on my liquitex paints (luckily) haven’t clogged yet, but that would annoy me too! Tubes are sooo much better :)

Very nice sketchbook! What are "acrylic gouache"??? I've been painting for decades and never knew there was an "acrylic gouache" paint. If it's acrylic than it's not gouache... If a painter wants an "acrylic gouache" just add gouache to your acrylics (or vv). As an interdisciplinary mixed media artist, I've always just mixed different water-based paints with my acrylics for the effects I want. Personally I would never buy "acrylic gouache". Just sayin...

Thanks! I agree, the term “acrylic gouache” is kind of contradictory. This type of paint is really more like a matte acrylic than a gouache. I think the term “acrylic gouache” is mostly just a marketing slogan someone came up with because it sounds more exciting than matte acrylic, haha :)
