I've only added a small amount of the Liquitex with my floetrol, but now I'll have to have an experiment with just the Liquitex pouring medium like you did here and see what happens. I do feel like the paintings are stickier when they are dry when I add it so that's why I haven't just used it up until now. Well, that and the cost.

My experience is still limited with pouring mediums so I’m sure other people might say more about this than me. I usually only use the liquitex pouring medium with floetrol. I don’t really like the liquitex by itself, it tends to require a lot more fussing around and it’s really not good for the effects I try to get. Now having said that, whenever I use it together with floetrol, it starts to set faster than just using floetrol. The liquitex is very good for holding the shape of the rings. If I want to make sure that there are less cells I can use less floetrol and more liquitex pouring medium. My favourite thing about liquitex pouring medium is that it makes everything very glossy and smooth, plus it helps immensely to prevent cracking and crazing.

Thank you for sharing! I'm surprised to hear that liquitex is good for shape holding, cause I has completely opposite results, but I guess it's all about finding the right consistency and ratio. Thank you!

I like that you posted the real deal experience. People who try to do it and don't get a great result right off the bat, might think they have failed, and then give up. Acrylic pouring is an experimental process and therefore there are no real failures; just learning experiences.

I agree with you SO much! Most of these videos only show great results. Everything went according to plan and the end result is fabulous. Then when I try and it fails, I get a bit shaken. It's so good to see a video where the results are not what they wanted. The thing that I love about Olga is the fact that she explains why she does things and what might happen if you don't so something (or you do something). I always learn so much when I watch her.

Perfectly explained! 👏👏👏 my mix is Floetrol, small amount of PVA, even smaller amount of Liquitex PM and bits of water. This is my go to mix for my basic pours. I use different combinations for more advanced type pours. Do I want cells or no cells. Do I want paint to blend or not blend. What I have found is that Artist mediums are generally some type of gloss coating. And can be used as such, like Liquitex PM. Where Floetrol is not an Artist medium just a conditioner and paint color extender. Liquitex changed some of their labeling, (Gina Deluca), on some of their mediums to include Pouring Medium on the Label, where it used to say Gloss and Varnish Pouring Medium, now just say Pouring Medium. I've found a little of each gives me the best results, keeping in mind that I cannot leave too much paint on the canvas when using Floetrol in the mix. I hope a lot of people see this! 👍

@OlgaSoby 5 жыл бұрын
Excellent explanation! Thank you, Diane. Only I have both Liquitex PM and Liquitex Gloss Medium and Varnish, and I would say they are different mediums, even tho some properties are the same. I am going to try a "complex" mixture with a little bit of everything and see how that works 😀

Dear Olga, I am sure someone has pointed it out, but I will say it too: the Liquitex looks like a blue eagle in front of a fire or like a monster. So it might be a keeper. And thank you so much for running this experiment! It is so important that someone who has consistent experiment conditions can test one parameter at a time. You are a perfect scientist of the acrylic pouring method! All the best to you! From Russia with love and appreciation.

Hi Olga, I too loved this experiment...we humans learn far better the hard way. It usually stays in our minds longer. So you actually saved us lots of paint and time to find these answers before they were questions in our minds, and mostly you saved us lots of materials. This IS all new to many of us, so we have to realize (remind ourselves) we are learning and we shouldn’t expect “perfection”. My personal opinion is that it doesn’t exist. Once we stop striving for “Perfect” I believe we will be much less stressed and therefore become better with the task and more realistic with our feelings after we complete a task. Who’s with me?

Yes please make more videos like this one maybe one where you have equal ratio of paint and medium and do same as you did here. Liquitex, water and floetrol. Thanks so much i learn so much when you do these. Great job.

Thank you for showing this, it's really useful for those of us who are still on the 10% good/90% awful pours to see what works, what doesn't, and most importantly why things go wrong. On my first pours I picked up the wrong tube to mix my white and only realised once I'd used up all my mix that I'd added Pebeo Bindex instead of white acrylic. It didn't affect the result, it was truly awful but it would still have been awful if I'd used the right tube!

Thank you, Debbie, it is all about trials and error and learning on our own (or someone else's) mistakes. In fact, some of my best pours happen from a terrible mistake at first

I swear you know exactly how to handle a unhappy pour. I've had a few problems & have been very upset w/ myself, I ordered flotrol from Amazon yesterday. So hopefully it will improve my pours, but I wanted to say thank you for your honesty 🙏😊. I appreciate your candor I needed to see someone like you (so talented & naturally artistic) have a little trouble with it. Yes please do more experiments its great fun! Yeah & thank you ❤

Hey Olga ✨ This is such a valuable teaching aide and I am so glad you never gave up on the video.......you gave us "the real deal" I am a fan of your "Lemonade" theory ......its trial and error. I have been wanting to buy a pouring medium, (already have a distilled water, a gloss and Liquitex iridescent in my supplies), this video steered me away from buying the Liquitex version , for the time being, so I have just ordered some Floetrol. Thank you for for the journey Stay Safe as always & Have a fantastic rest of the week 🧡🌻☮🕊
