I used to do this when I was a kid too! If you run out of ideas for "goofy shapes", you can always start with a recognisable shape, like the letters of the alphabet. It's really good practice and it's more obvious when you mess up because you can't read it 😆. And later on, it can come in handy for all sorts of occasions.

In high school did these 3D shapes so much but having to practice again as never looked how the lines met up. Seems hard at first but doing it over & over thank to your teaching. The box hardest 😊.

I start all my practice sessions this way. I have been doing this since I was a kid, as well. Like the others, I used to do it with the alphabet, then cans and boxes, then buildings. I used to turn the flashlight on things to see where the shading and shadows went. Very good technique and lesson for anyone who has a hard time with this. :)

This is so cool and helpful! I've always doodled boxes, cylinders and letters of the alphabet, but the irregular shapes and holes, plus shading, will really open things up for me. Great exercise ~ thank you!

i think that there is something you missed... (i mean it looks very similar to be included here lol), i'm talking about cutting spheres, you can make interesting drawings by cutting them in different forms, making holes, cuadricular holes, etc.... do you have a video about it? :D
