A more purplish hue would have been interesting as that shadow. It impresses me that Liron doesn't stop when he realises he's made a mistake but carries on and still learns from the painting. And then shows us! It's one reason this is becoming one of my favourite channels

Liron, I love how you communicate your views about your work. I always come away not only learning more about water color painting but also feeling it’s OK to appreciate artwork for both the wins and things you want to improve in it. I love your teaching style your perspective helps guide me enriches my personal perspective and value of my own work. Thank you for all you do. Smile! ;-)

This was so helpful! I loved that in addition to showing us what went wrong, you explained what you would do differently to correct it. I sometimes paint from my own photos but I live in the desert and am really light sensitive. So I'm grateful for people who can actually go outside to take pictures during the day, lol!

I definitely paint from my own pictures, as well as a friend with an amazing garden who is a crack photographer of nature, and a friend who is walking the Camino who is sending me landscape shots every day. I'm in Bali taking plant shots, and im gathering a good painting library! Thank you for showing us a mistake, how you did it and how we can avoid it!

This is such a helpful lesson. I love that you have the courage to speak right out about what’s going amiss! Part of learning to enjoy watercolor is not being afraid of mistakes. So many can turn into something interesting-and some are just mistakes! Try again! Like you say-Paint more.

Great tutorial Liron - still turns out ok - especially value wise, as you mentioned - though colours are important too, especially if we want keep some vibrancy (as we've learnt here) - thanks for showing how to "f-up" and still get a decent result. Another element I like is showing how to go really lose on the background in order to focus on the more important element(s) of the composition.

A famous painter once said, "Black is the death of all colors..." That's why I sort out exactly two colors from my paint boxes right at the beginning. One is black and the other is white. White makes no sense in watercolor painting, because the brightest white is the paper. For highlights I use white guache or a white pastel pencil. My darkest colors are indigo and Paynes Gray. With my favorite colors, the artist colors of "Schmincke-Horadam" there is Paynes Gray tinted in Paynes Gray blue and Paynes Gray red. These are exactly the colors that I use the most for the shadows. Of course, you can mix them yourself, but I like it especially for shadows, where it is important that he always has exactly the same tone in one place. Yes, you could call it convenience but I find it great to be able to almost blindly reach for these shadow colors and only nuance with water. Well placed shadows make up half the painting...

I love your training approach and definitely your painting style. I like your advice on doing paintings from my own photos. It's a way I can put into practice what I have been learning and also to "think on my feet". Timing is still a foggy area for me and learning when I can leave the painting sit for a few or when I have to "get after it". Thank you for your teaching.

Thanks very much. Your honesty and lucidity are your greatest strength, I believe. I was in your live chat and I asked you about water reflections. I bought a course from a really great artist, I was thinking that you could make a video comment on the Russian artist Julia Barminova. She is magnificent in that she does not do a lot of layers. She does one layer, first, a gradated wash and then painting dry into wet. (Stressful but awesome) Next layer is nothing but shadows.

Thank you! 😊🙏🏼 Yes - I'm familiar with her and got her on my (LONG) list of artists to possibly feature in the future haha. Her reflections and seascapes are TOP NOTCH!

I found a similar clay color mixing napthamide maroon with Holbein’s light red, it’s more opaque, a little browner but leans towards a clay color. Have you found napthamide maroon useful? I tend not to like red violets for landscapes, city scapes as well. What do you think about red violet with the types of paintings you do?

Hmm, I remember I have, but maybe I missed it 😅 It's the Escoda barroco, size 16 (: Specifically from their plein-air sets (the green one), but can be found also in regular form (this one is collapsible.

@@LironYan I'm not the best at recognising brushes if it's in a set, so I probably didn't see it, sry. anyway, thank you!
@LironYan2 жыл бұрын
@@loganshalloe5927 Oh yeah that makes sense actually. And I would recommend getting JUST that one, as the other 2 from the set weren't as useful to me anyway haha 😁 I found it on their website - it's this specific one - www.escoda.com/redondo-toray-oro-m-c.html (non plein air version). Mine is size 16, but depending on what you paint, 18 / 14 should also be good

You mention ‘sampling’ colors in the photo. Does that mean just studying them closely, or something else?
@LironYan2 жыл бұрын
You can actually sample them in photoshop using the eyedrop tool, and it will show you where it falls in the color wheel / swatches (: And plenty of other software (some free) have that capability. Gimp is an example for one that's on par with Photoshop, but there are much lighter ones that can do that too!
