@@evangouldtransit Question isn't LIRR's new Terminal Grand Cetral Madison not Grand Centrla Station?
@evangouldtransit Жыл бұрын
@@amaan-aliladak it's called Grand Central Madison. it is within Grand Central TERMINAL, hence why i called it that. GCM takes away from it's history i feel like. nobody would call the Statue of Liberty "The Monument on Liberty Island" so i feel the same about Grand Central.

Born and raised on LI, I took many trips on the LIRR and enjoyed looking out that front window for the whole trip when I was a youngster. It's interesting to see the interlockings now, because those tunnels into Penn were so dark it was hard to see much. I always wondered how the trainman was able to see stuff. (Years later, my sister was a trainman for a few years and took me into work with her to celebrate my birthday) Beautiful work on Grand Central. I'm looking forward to my next trip to LI to take a train into midtown!

So, this station is not part of GCT complex but its own? When was it built? How does it interface with the LIRR's entrance into Penn Station? Does it bypass the original trackage that went into Penn Station? Thanks.

What is the MAS in the tunnels to Penn? Is it greater than 60? BART does nearly 80 in the Transbay Tube so why 60? MAS is up to 80 elsewhere on the Railroad.
@evangouldtransit Жыл бұрын
MAS into Penn is also 60. i think it has to do with the amount of curves and space in these. the Transbay Tube is actually designed for 80mph operation.

Excellent video. It was great that you got a cab ride in the M9. I'm former Long Island, now in Florida for the past 4 years. Prior to moving I worked in Manhattan for 14 months, and got to see the construction of the approaches to the tunnels. Nice to see the finished work. Also, do all the M9s have a woman announcer? I find it's a nice change from the male voice in the M7s.

technically, i was behind the door, so no operating rules or statutes of limitations were violated. but it is a unique view nonetheless. the M9s do all have the female voice

@evangouldtransit Жыл бұрын
Grand Central Madison is the name given to the LIRR's Concourse that lies beneath Grand Central Terminal. i just don't like calling it Grand Central Madison because i think it's a slap in the face to what it's built under. it's like nobody would call the Statue of Liberty "The Monument On Liberty Island..."

Do they fit double levels??? If not double levels will do still from Penn Station. Also Moyniham Train Hall built originally for Amtrak and LIRR, while Pennsylvania Station overhaul will host only NJ Transit and Metro North. Going to Grand Central on LIRR is a plus, but going between Grand Central to Penn Station is a big mess, they should consider express bus but with average 3 mph run there it will be faster walk!!! Train to Times Square, shuttle, S, then another train 1, to Pennsylvania Station. Takes 10 minutes just to ride, not count walking and awaiting time for train. I think walk fast takes like 35 minutes. 42 to 6 then to 33. 10 minutes to just getting off elevators and stairs.

What is an MPF?
@evangouldtransit Жыл бұрын
"Movable Point Frog." a track device used at the turnout of the switch to eliminate the gap of the crossing, or frog, which can cause damage to the wheels and a bunch of noise. MPFs eliminate both of those issues.

The M3AS on the Metro North railroad will be here a Little while longer until the M9AS gets here for the metro North. Another thing to when the M9AS comes for testing on the metro North railroad the M9AS on the metro North railroad is gonna definitely have the same design like the M9S.
