Tracing family stories back 14 generations is a significant feat! How many generations back have you been able to trace your family history?

Only to great-grandparents. Sad that civil war and colonialism means that I probably will not be able to get much further back than that :/

To 980 but because my great grandma x38 was the queen of Norway so that line was well documented.

It is a significant feat. I have reached the 1600s in many family lines, a few in the 1200s and two in the 1100s, with those last two being 23 generations. In some other family lines I have only reached the late 1800s, that's just how it goes sometimes.

How sad they were not happy being Chinese, even sadder that they lived in a society that made them feel that way.

I grew up Chinese in Australia. I loved that I was Chinese. A lot had to do with my parents. It helped that my friends were so interested and curious about Chinese culture too.

I loved laura's reporting on vanguard. It was truly cutting edge. Its sad but understandable that she basically disappeared after she returned after she was caught illegally trespassing in the dprk.

Back to the late 1500s on some lines, and no further than 1840 on other lines. I had a cousin on Finding Your Roots, although our shared lineage wasn’t discussed much on his show, Edward Norton and I share 4x great grandparents whose lineages lead back to William and Mary Brewster and William Bradford of the Mayflower. My daughter-in-law is from Beijing China and knows very little about her lineage.

My Mayflower ancestor was Mary (Chilton) Winslow. She was the first woman to step ashore at Plymouth Rock. Same side of the family, am ancestor was a fille de roi in Quebec. Alot is known, but some needs verification.

That's amazing to hear! We're glad you had such success with some lines, and hope that more becomes clear in time for you and your daughter-in-law's lineage!

Hongkong was a complete dead zone when the Japanese invaded. It didn’t matter whether you were Chinese, Korean, manchu, Macanese, Portuguese, German, Dutch, or British. Everybody was in the same boat

I think Connie Chung was a much better known Asian in the media. Lost all respect for this woman when she irresponsibly went into North Korea illegally, creating an international incident and using up countless hours of diplomats’s time and “currency”, merely because her sister was a celebrity.
