From her days at the legendary Creem to today at Vanity Fair, Lisa Robinson has had an all-access pass to rock and roll history. She has interviewed such icons as John Lennon, Eminem, JayZ and Kanye West. She introduced David Bowie to Lou Reed and Iggy Pop, sat around a pool with a 12 year old Michael Jackson at his Encino home, and spent many hours talking with Lennon at his Dakota apartment. She helped The Clash and Elvis Costello get their record deals, was on a private plane with the Rolling Stones during a lightning storm and with Led Zeppelin when their tour manager pulled out a gun. She tells her stories on our stage in conversation with her friend Fran Lebowitz, and in the pages of her new book, There Goes Gravity: A Life in Rock and Roll.

Fran I miss seeing her on the David Letterman show, always agreed with her and found her humor hilarious. I would have loved to see her at Max's , but I was on the other end of America. New Yorkers had a lot more to do Then us San Franciscans. Yeah there was The Filmore , the Avalon and the Straight theater.but still they were where it's all happening and all nite too.

You know I’ve said this to myself on more than one occasion when trying to enjoy a video that shot during a Q and a session… If they don’t mic the question I’m not gonna watch. So I was optimistic when the Q&A started when Fran said “repeat the question please “to Lisa who spoke into the mic and repeated the question but they did not continue that president and that’s why I’m not completing the viewing of this video… Come on! Get with it! Don’t you want people to listen and watch? No excuse

They recorded two albums in their original '70s incarnation. Many years later, the lead vocalist reformed the band with one other original member, and they did two more albums. Their first, self-titled album is one of the greatest rock albums of all time. They influenced so many other bands.

Lisa says she told Jagger his shoes were tacky because she talks to celebrities just like she would anyone else. That's not how you talk to anyone else, that's how you talk to a celebrity when you want to show them how cool you are because you don't care they are a celebrity and believe me, you're not the first or last person to do that to them. If you WOULD say that to anyone you just met, you're an ill-mannered jerk.

LOL, my thought exactly! Thank you for putting it into words! I've been in NYC since the 90s so it feels like home. When someone is here for two months and does this to me, it's so awkward. I'm like, "oh, you saw on Devil Wears Prada that you're supposed to be sassy here? I wouldn't go to your small town in NC and do that."

In the eyes of these ladies, apparently, making pop music precludes being talented or worthy of anything more than general respect. This conversation is super interesting - I came for Fran - but such a reductive view of pop artists is ridiculous. Elton John would probably be the first to agree with me. This shows that even the shrewdest of people can have a blind spot.

I'm kind of stunned how this woman just passes over Tommy James as if he were some nobody that the music world has completely forgotten. Tommy James and the Shondells are perfroming on April 1, here at he Kaufman center in Kansas City... they sold 30 million records and had over a dozen top 40 hits. Nice to see Fran kind of rectify Lisa's dissmissivess a bit. This Lisa woman is obvisouly a musical snob that had disdain for anyone who performs pop music.
