The speakers sort of breezed by the topic of regulations. Effective regulations are the absolute foundation of a functional democracy. Without regulations there is no justice, no equality, and no liberty. Without regulations, might is right, and the only thing that matters is the accumulation and the preservation of power. Regulations provide protection for normal citizens against exploitation by people like Elon Musk, so is it any wonder that he advocates for deregulation?

This interview is so disturbing, unhinged, and off base that I don’t even know where to start. From celebrating “Zimbabwe’s democracy” (look up the tens of thousands of Africans slaughtered by Mugabe in the 1980s) to calling Trump an autocrat (autocrats don’t step down from power and they CERTAINLY do not give up power if they think the election was rigged against them) to thinking that “there is no good reason for hidden trusts” (if the rich are not in need of financial protection/secrecy, why do government target the rich with the highest tax rates?), this interview is one lie after another. To the open minded, I recommend watching the recent Tucker Carlson interview which cites Anne (a video which originally brought me here). In that Tucker interview, you will find a far more robust and academically stimulating interview with literally 20x more views than this “interview” Final note: academia is dead. So sad.

Concerning authoritarian propaganda in social media, my experience is mainly from KZbin which is basically great in sharing access to all sorts of information. But in certain channels you are just swept away by quite obvious fake news appearing in hundredfold variations, often in very bad English and getting upvoted without end. I just experienced this in a post from Times of India about the role of NATO and German military engagement in Lithuania. From the comments you got the impression that this is just the rebirth of German Nazism preparing the next attack on the poor and ever enduring victim Russia.

Everything you folks are talking about regarding the shortcomings of the Kleptocrats based out of the former iron curtain and former Marxist states holds true, but what’s your neglecting to say is it’s the failure of the American financial system, the inevitable concentration of wealth due to our current capital structure, which is causing our vulnerabilities in what is The west or the western sphere of influence if we were not so inherently flawed if there wasn’t such a large percentage of our population who is being left out of the discussion and if our own internal political system, we’re not as overly corrupt as it is, there would not be a question. But when you compare and contrast and clips with a corrupt inept obsolete crypto, which is what we’re working within there is room for discussion. If you’re left out of the financial situation and your living under a paradigm of scarcity and anxiety, you have no choice but to question other systems, especially if you’re, not educated and you’re essentially left out of the American dream. We should really get our own house in order that would be the best way of combating authoritarian narrates.

These two have lost the plot. Democracy is a process of collective decision-making. What they’re defending is liberal capitalism, against authoritarian capitalism. The inherent insecurity engendered by markets is what pushes them from their soft (liberal) variant, to hard (authoritarian) variant. The nationalist tendency toward external militarization and internal social cleansing occurs with the concentration of wealth and depletion of resources. Domination creates a perception of control, and this relieves anxiety. Authoritarianism can be democratically chosen, and democratic institutions can be authoritarian. The variable is economic, and capitalist societies are not self-legitimizing in the long-term. They self-sabotage through their own reliance on contingency and failure.
@PaoloMarinelli-sl2xu5 ай бұрын
Authoritarism can be democratic is a "non sense" in my opinion. The democracy can be authoritarian is true (know the recent hystory) The problem is capitalism? I don't know, I think that is semplicistic explain.

Hitler only got 38% of the vote in 1933, it was the friekorps/brownshirts that consolidated power through physical intimidation and violence on the streets - much like MAGA today talking about how they have all the guns - so Maoism, basically - nothing democratic about being organized violent psychopaths, but it’s effective. Also that was really great how you started your dismissive comment with an ad hominem, I hope you’re still making your quota for the day.

Aren't we all "Transactional" . Every concept we observe is measured up to fit into some aspect of our self awareness. When Scientists can't reach past their concrete mentality to evaluate parallel coexistence formality, they are setting themselves in the context of a Dictator who sells their business model of reverse-inverted conscience to the support team that wants that service. Eg why are lawyers identified as "Prostitutes of the Law"? When it's pointed out to the victim of dictatorial, misused administrative services and trust in the validity of the selected, legalised legitimacy.. Technically, there is no such thing as "democracy", only temporary alliance to a preferred concept of self importance.
