Try Pilot Iroshizuku Yama-Guri. A lovely dark Chestnut brown.

Very nice choices! I love brown inks and have many different ones that I like too. When choosing an ink I tend to lean towards the brown colors.

I also like Cacao de Bresil (apologies for not including the special character) and Kobe Nada Brown and will definitely be trying a sample of the Sailor 680. Can we just have a moment of silence for Waterman Absolute Brown / Havana Brown? I missed the opportunity to buy a bottle before it was discontinued and I am very sad about that.

Agree on missing the Waterman! Also, Iroshizuku Tsukushi. It was a dark few days when I found out both were to be no more.... Yamaguri is fine, interesting, but doesn't have the gold sheen of Tsukushi.

Thanks Lisa and Lindsay. I’ve been looking for a brown ink that is darker than my Pelikan 4001 (and not as orange), and the Sailor 680 and Monteverde might be good possibilities. Good video!

My favourite ink by far out of all inks is the GVFC hazelnut brown. Such a great colour

LAMY Crystal Topaz is my current brown in my Visconti Apollo, replacing the previous Pelikan 4001 Brilliant Brown. I do find the 4001 series to be drier inks, making them well-suited to wet writing pens like my TWSBIs and eyedropper.

Those are some interesting choices in Brown inks. I don't have any of those, but what I do have are three that I particularly like. I have De Atramentis Document Ink Sepia Brown, Diamine Chocolate Brown, and Sheaffer Latte. The Latte is a rather dark brown ink.

My first brown ink was a standard ink, Sheaffer Brown. Cartridge from the mid 1980s. MUCH better than their brown from the 1940s and 50s, which looks like the aftermath of the first time a little child is fed green beans... (See the brown in Noodler's V-Mail line...) Then, during a deep dive into vintage inks, I found what, to me, is the gold standard for brown inks, Parker Quink washable brown. My only experience with it is from the 1940s bottles, so I am not sure if it changes later on. Gives me the vibe of an antique document.

so glad you like caçao du Brésil: it’s been a favourite for a long time - watch out, if you like a nice, crisp line a la Diamine inks, this isn’t it: in an EF nib, it will, initially, produce a fatter line:); like Kobe#16 too - this is more difficult for me to get:(; totally like this type of vid:)

Great point. I like crisp lines and couldn’t figure why Cacao du Bresil wasn’t great for me.

I am not a big fan of brown inks (or the color brown, for that matter,) plus I have a weird aversion to inks with names I can't pronounce or that are just a number (yes, I'm talking to you, Sailor Ink Studio) because I can never remember their names. Instead, I choose inks with names that resonate with me, so I have Private Reserve Chocolat (and I only know how to pronounce that because I loved the book and the movie of the same name) and Papier Plume Caramel--chocolate covered caramels are my favorite candy!

For some reason, it seems that the Pilot Iroshizuku inks have fallen out of fashion. I still like the Tsukushi which is aptly named -- horse's tail.
