I loved the way you demonstrated shading by putting a piece of tracing paper over a more complex drawing. That was very helpful. Sometimes it's easy to grasp a concept on a simple form but get a little lost when trying to apply it to a more challenging subject matter.

It would’ve been an interesting aid/demonstration for you to have a sheet of paper as the two dimensional front-facing object, add a shade gradient in vertical and horizontal lines, and then bend the paper itself into a tube and show it from different angles so we could see the line orientation change.

I am glad you made this video because I learned something new the other day that confused me even more contour hatching which I noticed those types of lines were in your book. Doing hair in ink still boggles my mind, especially really detailed dog hair.

Thank you Alphonso for your awesome presentations! My impression , together with Part 2, is that shading with tone, however faster it is than with lines, does not render shape and orientation as palpably as the lines ...

It wasn't until the "counter example" at 19m45s that I really *got* it - for me, 3d is fine and the "bending the plane" is easy to visualize, "how would you *not* do that, isn't it obvious?" but then it clicked when you drew it the "wrong" way and I finally understood what the question was !

I'm so glad to see you back in another excellent video. I have learned much from you. I also like looking at artists who provided illustrations for periodicals from the days where illustrations were easier to get than photos. One of my favorites was Thomas Fogarty. Thomas Fogarty had an interesting habit of using very precise lines to indicate areas of newness or order in his drawings, unsteady lines to indicate aging or neglected areas and cross hatching for chaotic or messy regions of his drawings. He also left outlines off of distant objects to give the feel of distance to them.

I got your books this summer and now that I started my MA art therapy I have the need to get better at my drawing and to get back into it. Like you discuss in one of your previous lessons to practice everyday. Iso much appreciate your youtube demo's you are such a good teacher with so much patience and you know how to give ove over your knowledge and to create the vibe that as a student I have to learn to trust and believe in myself. Thank you for for all your input into all of us over the globe. Waitiing for the next demo.
