First time I fought this guy, it took me several tries before I barely beat him with Joel and Georgy killed and Alex with 7 health. Then my game's save files were ruined. Second time fighting him was a lot easier with better item management

The problem is is that Alex doesn't want to fester in his own shit and in a glorified garbage dump, while the others see it as pointless and dangerous to even escape their crap situation, and instead fetishize and worship it almost.

Like the guy said, "Once a taboo is broken, there's no going back". Everyone on Garbage Island was there because that's all there was. There was nothing else out there, not anything better. But once Alex and Joel were leaving, then it gave a sense of wanderlust to everyone else as well. People stopped being content with garbage and started wanting more. Roland tried to stop them from leaving in order to stop that taboo from being broken, but clearly he wasn't successful.
