This scene spooked me when I first came across it. Just the way the franchise manipulates Alex’s mind into thinking he always wanted to just kill is terrifying.

It is what it is. A corporation at it's finest and to be honest? A very subtle critique to how companies work sometimes, they don't give excuses, they don't hold back. They make you actively partake on their game and they love it.

I really love this scene and the aspect of joining the franchise in SOTWS. From a storytelling perspective, the Infinity Franchise is a great way of showing just how depraved and violent the post-Flash world has become in a way that's unique from what's shown in Painful or Hopeful. People in the world of Lisa kill each other all the time over dirty magazines and the chance of finding the last girl. The residents of downtown Olathe are mostly harmless, innocent people who are manipulated by an otherworldly force to become bloodthirsty murderers who kill endlessly for no real reason besides reaching another "fold." Vanilla Pointless already did a great job with conveying how pervasive and corrupting the franchise is by slowly turning friendly NPCs into Jerseyheads, most of whom Alex is forced to kill if he encounters them. SOTWS takes this a step further by making it so that Alex himself becomes a member of the franchise if he kills too many people. The idea that a kind friend and overall good-natured person like Alex can become an uncaring, nihilistic murderer is a testament to the destructive influence of the Franchise. Seeing Alex completely abandon his goals and his closest companion is tragic to watch and informs us that nobody is safe from the effects of the jersey. In terms of gameplay, I think the third fold route is handled really well. As opposed to something like Undertale's Genocide Route, where you have to go out of your way to tediously hunt down every single enemy, the third fold route can be achieved by complete accident. You don't even have to kill everyone, only 48 people if I remember correctly. And with the number of fights available in SOTWS, it's pretty easy to lose track of how many enemies you encounter. Standard RPG elements like exploring new areas and fighting more battles to level up become ways for the player to inadvertently trigger the game's bad ending. It's really impressive how Alex's attempts to resist the franchise and maintain his sanity go hand-in-hand with the player carefully choosing their battles to not be locked out of the game's additional endings. Pointless and its expansion mods have some of the best gameplay and worldbuilding I've experienced from a free indie game, and I can only hope people like Ed, JC Jimmy, and the countless other talented devs get some more recognition for their work. (Third Fold Route Spoilers) One of my only complaints with the third fold route is the anticlimax of Hugo just killing Alex at the end, despite how much stronger the latter is at that point. I'm glad Infinity Unfolds gives you a fair, albeit extremely difficult, chance to beat Hugo and have a bit more extra content.

That's also what makes it very cool, it isn't some morally breaking route, it is in a bit, a route of blissful ignorance thrown far too onto the air, I got this route completely on accident the first time and this recording is just me using that file. It's something that you as a player can be seen doing, and the fact that the Game *gives you* the choice to reject the Franchise or well. Attempt to do so that is, it's fun. Although I don't recommend it. You miss out in Major Iris and Minor Iris too

@@theSars Minor Iris can still be learned through level up. It's rejecting the 2nd fold that you miss out on Major Iris.

I fucking hate the concept that the franchise is some fucking Lovecraft entity instead of an nihilistic group of people who have given up hope of a better future and gave into their depravity. The people of Downtown Olathe were never innocent. They joined the franchise on their own free will, and the franchise gave them the excuse to act as depraved as they always wanted to

@@NoName...... I see where you're coming from, but I don't think it's fair to write off the Franchise as being completely devoid of supernatural elements. All the stuff with Daniel Grind can't just be a hallucination. And yeah, the downtown residents weren't saints, but there's a big gap between people like Alcohol Keith and Jesse Mack. A lot of the IF members do use the jersey as an excuse to be complete degenerates, but that doesn't mean the Franchise doesn't have some corrupting influence on its members. I have a hard time believing that Jesse Mack was just itching for an opportunity to waste his kids like that.

What I really love about what Infinity Unfolds did when fixing the flaws of the Hugo encounter is that both endings now fit perfectly well with the 3rd fold. You have nobody to blame but yourself at the very end and already had the opportunity to escape downtown 3 times, but you chose to keep pursuing it. And when fighting and losing to someone like Hugo, not only is it an actually reasonable punishment for not blocking the attack, but you basically become what you’ve eaten. (In other words literally if you ever used Taste of Flesh) Succeed, and you get to see Alex go on an absolute blood bath, killing Jerseyheads, mutants, and even just normal people. You then reach the city eventually again, but instead of having hope for Alex, you just feel horrified, realizing the monster you created. God I love this mod

When I first saw this scene I thought they were going to make it so that whenever the avatar of decay went down it came back up, you would basically have to lose by giving up your identity on purpose or when you're forced to from your lack of healing items. Such a powerful moment.

I managed to get the Avatar's HP to 0 while he was charged for Major Iris and he still used it to kill me from full HP. This led me to believe it was a scripted loss until I realized I got the "3rd fold rejected" achievement from it.

I wished we had a side story of someone reaching the top of the folds and seeing how the process goes. I think it would be a good perspective on this Franchise.

@@theSars also I’ve noticed you’ve got Geen! Nice one for keeping him through the folds, I think he makes things a lot easier as he co-ordinates well with Alex’s attacks. Oh and one more thing? You can now equip the jersey for Alex’s body slot.
