What is the benefit of 'Find it?' when your dog is overstimulated/overexcited?
Don't knock a 'find it' just because it is easy and simple! How does doing a 'find it' help with an overstimulated/overexcited dog or puppy?
1. Engages a different sense
2. Dog has to BREATHE to sniff. Breathing can help activate the parasympathetic nervous system (in simple terms, 'calm' their mind'). Note: it's not going to make them instantly calm; however, it will help bring them down a notch
3. Hone their sniffing skills/nosework
4. Brings their head to the ground - naturally a more relaxed position. To further elaborate, imagine you're stressed - then you sit down in a comfy bean bag chair you melt into. While you still may be stressed, it helps bring you down a notch.
