I always love your mug rugs and these are adorable. I’m a big fan of faux piecing especially on mug rugs and fabric postcards. It’s a fun process. These little mug rugs are a good way for new quilters to try free motion quilting without the stress of a large quilt.

I realize this is an old video however these are adorable. Purchased this one and the Dove's and will be attempting to make and this will be my first time ever attempting to quilt anything. I have the SnC Dx225 so i will be learning as well. I like others would definitely love to see SnC Videos from you as you make them easy to follow. I can split my screen and follow along step by step. Thanks for sharing.

I hope you check out some of my other videos as I've begun showing the SNC in several of them. I think once you are comfortable with the steps you are going to just love using the machine to create and cut your applique! Let me know if I can help :)

@@TheQuiltmakerHomestead Oh trust me I did. I purchased the Dove and the Star. I found the SnC Video of The Xmas Stocking one and I just used that one to cut the Doves. Not perfect as I did not line my fabric correctly and the Poor Doves Belly Got chopped a little however I was able to use it. Made my first Mug Rug ever. It has a few flaws but I'm learning. You should teach on how to convert your PDF to SVG. Thanks for reply.

I have a question? Scrim or no scrim for batting? Lisa, what's your favorite batting for quilts? P.S. Love your Christmas mug rugs and stocking videos.
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead 6 жыл бұрын
Good morning! Hmmm, I think it depends from quilter to quilter. I personally like the scrim on my battings...and I'll tell you my experience and why I like it. I've noticed, without scrim that I get white little pokies on the backside of my quilts....where the needle pops a small tiny amount of batting through to the back. Now, it could just be me....and maybe the needle I'm using...however when I use a batting with scrim, I don't see this. I lay the scrim side facing the backing and it works great. Again....this is all just my experience. I use all kinds of batting...my favorites are an 80/20 and I just used a 100% polyester batting from Joann's that I'm really liking.....Warm and Soft Bright. The quilting looks awesome with this batting!

So glad I found your videos, I am differently, going to start teaching myself to make these. One question, I noticed that you don't double stitch a knot when finishing an area. Is that enough to be able to wash the rugs. I see it makes them very neat. Just wondering?.... Thank you for the inspiration.

I was so happy to see another video from you! I look forward to them. I ordered four of them! How hard would it be to make them a little bigger?
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Sonia! If you change the measurements of the mug rugs, most of them would work fine. After printing them off....you may need to scale up the size of a few of the different patterns, particularly the "faux piecing" ones to make them fit. If you have troubles readjusting the size, email me at lisacapenquilts@gmail.com. I may be able to adjust the ones you want if you let me know how big you want them....just an idea.

Hey Donna! The pattern is in my Etsy shop. You can find the link in the description box of this video, or jump over to Etsy and search for Lisa Capen Quilts. I don't have the pattern right in front of me, but rough guessing the squares are about 2" and triangles about 1.5". I could be wrong heheee......

Hello, I just watched this video and learning how to do this for the first time. I love how easy you make this. I am about to purchase some of your patterns. I do have a question. Are these mug rugs, the way they are made, machine washable and dryable? Or should they hand wash and hang out to dry? I was thinking of whipping up 30 or so of these for the girls at work for Christmas this year. Thank you.
@TheQuiltmakerHomestead

Stitching down your applique makes it so you can wash it in the machine just like a quilt :) I'd wash them in cold water to reduce shrinking ♡

thanks Tina :) I like to make my mug rugs so that they fit a cup of some sort and a small snack :) Some time ago I looked up sizes of mug rugs and found that so many people make them all different sizes and I love that! I'll post the forum: www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1/what-do-you-see-typical-size-mug-rug-t73495.html. I think these Christmas mug rugs are a tad bit to small for placemats....or when I think of placemats I think of 14 x 20" which is a lot bigger.....that could just be me??
