Doing a yearly snap-shot budget can really be an eye-opener! Two years ago I paid off my car and two months ago the house, it's so freeing. Channels like yours have inspired me. I have never had any premium channels like Netflix, Hulu, ect and don't plan on picking them up even though I can afford them now. Also when I paid my car off I started putting $200 a month into savings for the next one. I have not always been this disciplined, it's taken years to finally get serious. You can do this Lisa!!

I also dont have Netflix or Hulu I pay 99 cents a month for Apple iCloud for my phone storage. I enjoy lots of free stuff through KZbin. I haven't add any type of TV, Cable, or subscription video programming since I moved out of my parents house 20 yrs ago. Its just not an expense I can justify.
@carolb9234

@@arthrodea Totally agree with you! I haven't been without cable tv for as long as you but I did cut the cord at least 15 years ago. Before streaming came into the picture I use to go to the library and rent movies/series; unfortunately my library is not free like many others but the rental price was very cheap. Once you get use to being without for awhile, it becomes the norm.
@arthrodea
@arthrodea Жыл бұрын
@@carolb9234 Yes, I used to use the library more - mine was always free. Once I moved out, and had no TV - I realized how much time I was wasting watching TV! It forced me to read and study all through college because there was nothing else I could do at my apartment LOL! And then it just got to be the norm, like you say. The only reason I pay for internet is that I really have to have it for work. There were some random months when I cut out internet and tried to just use my cell phone for internet connection, but it is really hard to type on a phone (those were months I was trying to really really be frugal!).

Hi Lisa! Our biggest goal for 2023 is to finish our Emergency Fund. We started working on this in September of 2022 (after we finished baby step 2) and are expecting to finish baby step 3 in June. Then, we'll begin saving for retirement. Our first child is coming in April, so we'll start 4 and 5 once the emergency fund is done (we don't have a house yet - nor are we looking to buy one currently).

I am 62 yo, retired and just living off social security and retirement savings to bridge me until my pension kicks in at 65. Since I am too young for Medicare, I have to pay OOP for my insurance - so I had to make a 2023 budget to determine my “income” for the ACA healthcare- the premium depends on the income. I loved it and helped me get real about what were my fixed expenses and what I could “play with”!! I have no debt- my 2018 car is paid off, my new home is paid off (I sold my big expensive home in Seattle and paid cash for a new home in The Villages Florida❤❤❤) and no credit card debt= FREEDOM!!!

I’m fairly new to your channel and have liked and subscribed. That’s a good idea to do a yearly budget to get the big picture. I’m going to work on that today😊 Thanks for the awesome idea! I’m 57, will be 58 in March. So I’m guessing I will have to continue working for 8-10 more years. So I’m trying to save as much as I can in that time as I would like to relocate closer to family. I’m currently renting my apartment. Have a great day!

I like this idea. I’ve never done a yearly budget. It’s very eye opening. Just glancing at your budget I noticed you’re paying more for lawn care than you have listed as savings for your ultimate goal ( house). I appreciate that you said a lot of the items are not necessary and that you might be cutting those. Thank you for being so open and sharing your actual numbers with us. It really is motivating.

One of the best cost-saving tips is to cycle subscriptions, keeping only one at a time. This can cut your costs by 60% and you can still watch whatever you want while your subscription is active. You might also want to shop around for renters insurance - it should be ~$20/mo. Not sure how much you plan to save for a house but at less than $2000/yr., it will take a very long time especially if you need to replace your car soon. Can you get a 2nd job or increase your income to $50k+?

I have already set my budget for 2023 and my goal is to finally get that drated Emergency Fund finalized. I seem to always need the money I put aside for daily expenses. $39,000 is a terrific income. Many would say no but it is a solid base for a healthy budget. With so many folks on Etsy and online selling the same items I have looked for more unique items or ways to present them that make mine stand out.

I'm probably missing something - but how did you pay off 80,000 of debt with an income of 39,000, in two years - it seems like every last cent of income would have to go to debt. ??? If you could do whatever you were doing to earn that extra 80K in two years - that would make an amazing down payment!

Just some suggestions - not sure if Hulu has a different price in every state and not sure which plan you have but I have the cheapest plan where I don't think I can watch live TV but it cost about 8.00 a month and if you pay yearly, it's cheaper than monthly. I have never had any kind of cable tv so even if I'm watching shows that are reruns and old, I don't care and it wouldnt matter because I haven't seen so many things. I used to have Amazon when they were reasonable but they are just too expensive now. I don't order much from them but when I do, I order at least 25.00 to get the free shipping or I just pay shipping because it comes out cheaper than having a membership which gives you the excuse to order every little thing which then cost you more money. I'm impressed by you paying your debt down in just a couple of years. Good luck saving for car and home!

I do the yearly figures too just to see where we are We, however paid off all our debt a few years ago, paid off our house and our cars. Figuring thing got a lot easier. I’m a month ahead in bills. All bills for January were paid around dec 20th When I get online to pay bills, I write down what’s in checking, I subtract the bills, then of the balance remaining, I know what has to stay in checking to cover food, gas,etc, anything over that amount goes right into savings. 1 for retirement and the other is emergency fund All the pay from dec 30th goes to savings I pay our property tax in one lump sum and the car insurance the same way.

I do anywhere from 100 to 150 miles a week, but I do have to do a little bit of traveling. I took quite a hit on my gas budget when I went up to Central California from San Diego but I did the whole thing on one tank of gas which at California prices worked out to be about 70 bucks. I so affirm your saving for a house. I have read so many things these days about how renting can be better than buying, but for me the best part of owning a home is that my costs are fixed. I paid more than my rent when I bought my house 22 years ago, and it was quite the stretch. I had to make a lot of sacrifices. 22 years later, and only because of taxes, I am paying about $150 more than I was 22 years ago. To put it in perspective, I was paying a little under $1,100 when I bought the house, and now I'm paying a little bit under $1200, and that's with everything included because I got lucky with my lender. These days to get the same square footage and a modest but decent neighborhood rent would be about 2,800 a month. That is a big difference. And then of course there's appreciation on the house itself which I kind of don't count. But what does matter to me is that even as my income Rose my mortgage/rent didn't and that allowed me a lot of wiggle realm, especially in these recent years. I'm semi-retired, but I do work to supplement my income, and my goal is to not have to supplement my income, which means needing less money. If I could get my living expenses under my pension, I'd be good to go. I would still work but I wouldn't feel compelled to work. All of this to say I totally affirm you. So glad I found your channel!

Just start! I don’t do social media either. I film with my phone and a phone stand on a TV tray table I got from Walmart. 😂 it’s nothing fancy!

Are you using ad or ad free for Hulu? I pay 79.99 per year for ads. You may want to sign up now before it goes up 109.99 effective Dec 8. Amazon Prime is $139 a year, cheaper than paying monthly.

I think you were able to pay off your debt because you lived in pretty cheap places. We keep going into debt because we are a household of six and our mortgage is 2100 a month. You don’t even understand how blessed you are to only be paying 500 a month. Where I live in bc Canada that isn’t even a thing rent starts here one bedroom 1800 and up.

We have 8 in the family and our mortgage is 3300. It is possible to stay out of debt...albeit...hard! My hsuband works overtime, we shop thrift only for clothes and our cars are from 2007. We don't have cable or Hulu, or Netflix or Disney plus. Our very last debt to pay is the hot water rtnak and furnace bill .
