@@marduk6836 because 1. The Nazi racial ideology wasn’t based on how European you were, as non-European ethnicities were sometimes placed above European ones 2. Their presence was mostly restricted to Europe, meaning that they couldn’t really have a lot of outside forces, even tho such do in fact exist (like the free India legion)

@@TEUTONIC__ORDER699 What are you talking about, young man? Ukrainians joined the Galicia Division SPECIFICALLY TO FIGHT THE RUZZKIES. Before the Second World War, the OUN (Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists) was active in Ukraine, and they wanted to achieve independence from the Soviets, but the war broke out. Then, in the first years of the war, the OUN split into two camps: OUN (M) and OUN (B). The former were the main people who were in the OUN and the leader Melnyk (that's why there is an "m" next to the name). The second "camp" was led by Bandera, who wanted complete independence from everyone, but at that time it was impossible to achieve. Melnyk and his supporters wanted the Third Reich to give Ukraine autonomy within its borders (interesting fact: the Third Reich was the first country in the world to recognize the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people, and in general, the Germans treated Ukrainians well, as loyally as Ukrainians treated them, because even then Ukrainians knew perfectly well what "ruZZians" were) (we can also recall how the Soviets raped 2 million German women aged 8 to 80 during the occupation of Berlin). That is why no katsaps fought in the SS Galicia. NO NEED TO SPREAD LIES.

Not that military losing its appeal is a bad thing, but one can't deny that old military uniforms (WWII and older) look amazing and add to the romanticism. It's not crazy to assume that thousands of young Germans joined the SS not because of their staunch nazism but because they wanted to see themselves in those magnificent uniforms.

Why does it surprise me so hard that wallonia had an SS division, i knew that flanders had one, since they are just super-germanic and all that shit, but wallonia? I did more research up this, and the "wallonien" division was basically any belgian that spoke french and didn't recognize as a "fleming", thus the wallonian SS uniforms *actually got belgian flags* instead of wallonian ones, the division name was kept though i believe, even though the wallonian division was much more then wallonia. (Included french-speaking flemings, and much people from brussels.)

The Walloons are originally Romanized Germanic tribes under the Roman Empire. And mixed even later with the Frankish tribes. This is the reason why the Vollsführer of Wallonia, Léon Degrelle, proclaimed "the Germanness" of the Walloons, which was recognized by the Reichsführer SS, Heinrich Himmler. The Walloon Legion carried the Belgian flag because walloon regionalism and separatism sentiment ware weak among French speakers. They remained attached to kingdom of Belgium. The legion, brigade then division Wallonia was not in a hostile perspective towards Belgium but as an army representing a part of Belgium, hence the maintenance of the national flag. However, the flag will be gradually eclipsed by the Burgundian flag which will become the core of Walloon nationalism. The people of Brussels will fight in the units for the Dutch speakers and the Walloons for the French speakers. The fate of Brussels was to become, as today, a region detached from Flanders as a city-Gau like Hamburg, Vienna and Berlin.

The picture should explain itself 16: ? 15: ? 14: ? 13: a sword probably an ottoman saber, since the division was exclusively composed of muslim converts from the balkans region 12: ye olde "sieg" (victory) or "sovilo" (sun) rune as in the SS insignia, plus the key symbol of the leibstandarte, signaling these boys as in their name, to be the proteges of the true elite 11: nordic swastika also known as the "sonnenrad" (sun wheel) 10: stylized F but the name relates to an infamous general and mercenary leader from the late middle ages, often being credited for perfecting the landsknecht style of warfare. Revolutionizing the holy roman empire's armies from just mounted knights and peasant hordes into ranks of modern trained and payed soldiers 9: ? 8: horse and sword for cavalry division. Also named after another legendary knight, this one being sorta like the german robin hood or william wallace known for leading a peasent revolution, there's also a famous german folk song about him 7: ? 6: ? 5: another nordic swastika 4: could be a wolfsangel standig sideways or a stylized "eiwhaz" rune which amongst other things stands for defense and safety what would be about fitting for it being a police unit 3: the favorite symbol of every pirate and 4chan edgelord, originating in polish and prussian cavalry units and was popularized in WWl by the infamous stormtrooper units and later the freikorps. Coming from such a grim background it would indeed live up to it's reputation, the 3rd being known as exterminators and the reapers of the holocaust supervising the einsatzgruppen and being in charge of concentration camps 2: wolfsangel again 1: hitler's elite "guards" as the name suggests. The key symbol being a reference to the unit's leader "dietrich" (a german name but simultaniously a word for key or general purpose tool to open locks) I guess l will pass my finals in nothern/germanic symbolism but l really should fresh up my eastern european lore, sorry for that lol.

What do the pits on the emblems mean from above - in the middle, on the left, on the right? (A hole in the middle-I take it this is cavalry?)

One correction , 19th ( latvian 2nd ) existed since 1943 , both latvian divisions ( 15th and 19th ) existed side by side. Unfortunetly , english scources are bit lacking in this department.
