A big convo to be had when this comes out will be "when should i switch my main task force off EMCON?".... My answer in short, is definitely the moment the enemy is observed to be sending significant missiles/aircraft/torpedoes at you. In short, at that point, you've passed the kill-chain pyramid concept of ..."if detected, don't be acquired", ....."if acquired, don't be shot at", ......"if shot at, don't be hit, and if hit, don't be killed" (you're likely already in the last phase). If the enemy has already started shooting, you can safely assume they've acquired you, and preservation, defense, or launching immediate counter attack is now the full priority, and going loud on active sensors won't likely hurt much, but give your defenses the best chance. Context is for kings, and there will situations that may differ, but on a TF vs TF fight, and you're already on the defence? At that point, it's likely safe to assume they have you dialed in. Might as well defend as strongly as possible to preserve your force as much as possible.

Nighttime battles in this game are an aspect I've admittedly haven't gotten a complete grasp upon. Staying at EMCOM is while vital to not be detected in the missile age, can become a serious liability where your Mk. 1 eyeballs can be rendered near useless. Radar was absolutely crucial to winning night/low visibility battles in WW2 where it could be used generously (I cannot understate it's importance), the fact that you're inclined to no use it in such conditions adds a whole other layer to being "blind." Still gotta remember those different Radar bands.
@CmdrTyrael2 ай бұрын
In my opinion. Stealth takes precedence above all else. ESM is so sensitive, every second you let an enemy study your signature, is a second closer to death. When visibility is limited, you really need to leverage all your ID types (acoustics, vision, radar and ESM) like a pilot in bad weather, using all your tools means you don't necessarily need eyes (where you're going - event horizon 💀) Radars give off unique fingerprints, and if a ship has several different radar types, it can tell the enemy exactly what you are, and where. Most AShM have on board guidance. So the real goal is to turn ON sensors long enough to detect something and fire. Then go dark. The more ESM present the faster you will be triangulated. Theoretically, you could blind fire harpoons at a surface contact detected only by Acoustics

@CmdrTyraelАй бұрын
@lordrexy1 easy. Sonar always listens passively at long range. Or you can use a louder Active version with lower range that can penetrate the layer. Use sonobuoys to spread out listening ability and slow down your ships to increase their ability to hear.

Hey yo, I have a few questions about sonar in general: Can sonar be jammed? Could an antiship missile be homed in via sonar and datalink? Would be cool if anybody has an answer 🚢
@CmdrTyrael2 ай бұрын
As far as I know, Sonar can be tricked, with decoys and noise makers but not Jammed. You can muffle and mask your acoustic emissions but sonar can't be jammed. Because it would require you to create enough "noise" to raise the background noise level. Like a giant underwater speaker This source could then still be tracked. So a "Noisemaker" attempts to increase the background noise to mask the ship signature. Some ships have Towed Decoys which attempts to create noise behind the vessel to give sonar something Interesting to look at.

Good day, what is a good method to detect coastal batteries?
@CmdrTyraelАй бұрын
@ryanmoorley9628 the best option, imo is a ship launched Heli with surface search radar. Keep it low, then pop up and scan as required for short periods. This will spot silkworm sites and coastal batteries.

@@Dorimeme187 So you're in a vessel gone all dark, you get something on passive sensors in a conflict zone, it ain't a friendly, so you blast it. Only to find out it's civilian traffic, now the (still hidden) enemy knows where you are and whacks you. That's risk enough for me at least.
@benleman6492 ай бұрын
So obviously in an ongoing shooting war that is true. However, what if the conflict just broke out and caught everyone off guard? Not all scenarios that we are going to play through in Sea Power are going to be taking place in the middle of WW3. Also, think of events like the US bombing Tripoli in the 1980s. That wasn't a full-blown war but a retaliatory strike that was happening while the entire rest of the Mediterranean was obliviously going on with everyday life. Having the nuance in the game, therefore, of contacts possibly being neutral is a great design decision, in my opinion.
