LISTEN - short film

Fynn is waiting for the train to meet up with his girlfriend Lara, when he bumps into his old friend from school Tom. They haven´t spoken in a while and chat about the past. But before Fynn even notices, the chat turns into something way more serious...
The short film "LISTEN" ("HÖR ZU" in german) gives an extensive veiw on the relationships of young adults in times of social media and smatphones. It appels to paying more attention to the real world.

Leute, ich muss sagen, ihr seid großartig. Das Mobbing und aggressive Verhalten von Jugendlichen ist ein allgemeiner Trend, aber die verzögerten Folgen haben immer ein unglaubliches Bild. Wir alle sollten darüber nachdenken, wie die Welt heute ist, und besonders auf alle hören, die ein ernstes Problem haben. Keine Notwendigkeit, faul zu sein.

While this is an excellent Short Film, unless I am missing something, the line spoken by Fynn at 7:30 should NOT have been "Oh yeah man, that definitely sounds like Paul, for real". BETTER TO WRITE THIS SO THAT: Tom is Leon. Fynn is Paul. What do other people think ?

Der Film ist richtig gut geworden. Ich hab erst kurz bevor Fynn zum Zug laufen wollte verstanden, wer mit Leon gemeint ist. Regt auf jeden Fall sehr zum Nachdenken an. Ich weiß gar nicht, wie ich sagen kann, wie super ich den Film finde. Alles perfekt gelungen!

Ist keider heitzutage häufig so und so oft wie Fynn auf sein Handy geschaut hat geht noch, ich kenn Leute die ihr Handy leide nichtmal für ne Sekunde wegstecken, sogar ich bi wie Fynn dass ich oft wenn mir jemand was erzählen will kurz mein Handy raus hol um zu schauen ob jemand geschrieben hat, ich will mich aber ändern, was schwer ist in der heutigen Welt, da man immer denkt ne wichtige Nachricht zu bekommen, dabei sind die meisten Nachrichten auf dem Handy föllig unwichtig.

Very powerful! The story profoundly touched me. I got a mix of sadness and anger, and it got tears welled up in my eyes. I feel sorry for Tom and Fynn. Had Fynn known earlier, maybe he could have saved his friend. The movie is an eye-opener, and the truth is that sometimes we don't pay much attention to what happens to those around us. We definitely must pay more attention and listen to what our friends and those seeking help are trying to tell us.

I’m totally him in every way. I mean his personality, I’ve never been bullied like that but I relate to him. You really need to watch who you hang out with. I know that if you’re lonely you want to fit in with people who may not be good and you may not realize it because you want to be popular and hang out with the cool guys, but trust me it is not worth it. It’s better to be alone if the people around you don’t respect you and like you for who you are. I don’t know how I would’ve reacted if something like this happened to me but It would have not been good, I definitely wouldn’t have let them do what they did to him and do nothing. I got too hatead and frustrated only watching this. Be careful with the people you let into your life.

[damit du lernst, Es zwei Fehler: "I thought I know" eher, als "know" Sie sollten Vergangenheitsform verwenden "knew" => "I thought I knew" und "which kind of character" verwenden wir "what" eher, als "which" Alles in allem ist es I thought I knew what kind of character some people I know have, and well, I was wrong. @J. K. In der Tat. Die Zeit verfliegt. Ich gehöre heute zu den Älteren, der Halb-Grauen. Auch in meiner Jugend gab es die Außenseiter, auf die alle einhacken. Damals gab es aber noch nicht die gnadenlose Welt der Smartphone-Kameras und der "sozialen" Medien. Dafür hatten es Schwule weitaus schwerer, besonders auf dem Land. Was mir an dem Film besonders gefällt, was aber vielleicht nicht ganz so auffällt, ist, dass der den Finger auf eine weitere Wunde legt: Es ist immer noch ein Aufreger an der Schule, wenn ein Mitschüler als schwul geoutet wird. Dabei ist es egal, ob diese Behauptung stimmt und Videos oder Fotos manipulativ eingesetzt werden. Da outen sich dann viele als ganz schön "ewig gestrig". Zu meiner Schulzeit wäre so ein Outing auf dem Land tatsächlich ein ernstes Problem gewesen. In meinem Dorf gab es einen älteren, feminin wirkenden Schüler, über den sich damals viele das Maul zerrissen haben. Als Jüngerer habe ich das auf der einen Seite aus Furcht vor mir selbst und vor sozialer Ausgrenzung mindestens toleriert. Auf der anderen Seite hat er mir auch leid getan. Gehandelt habe ich nicht. Das ist über 40 Jahre her. Aber es liegt mir noch auf der Seele. Vielleicht hat sein Schicksal auch mit dazu beigetragen, dass ich selbst mir erst sehr spät erlaubt habe, der zu sein, der ich eigentlich bin. Wir sollten alle wachsam sein. Zuhören. Beistehen. Uns nicht feige abwenden. Wir sollten es nicht dulden, wenn irgendjemand irgendwann das Wort "schwul" benutzt, um jemand anderem Schaden zuzufügen oder andere Menschen herabzusetzen.

Ich kann garnicht glauben, und bin äußerst positiv überrascht, dass sich jemand die Mühe gemacht hat, diese Themen aufzugreifen, denn hier werden viele negativen Aspekte unserer heutigen "Gesellschaft" geradezu schon fast "brutal" aufgezeigt. Wow. Wirklich richtig klasse. Da ahnt man nichts Böses und am Ende verwandelt sich der FIlm in "Die üblichen Verdächtigen". Da hatte ich nicht mit gerechnet. Das Erschreckende ist ja, finde ich, dass jeder diese Charaktere kennt - jeder kennt so einen Paul, so einen Tom/Leon und so einen Fynn. Das war wirklich richtig gut geschrieben. That's so sad. I take it that Leon never really existed, and that the rape happened to Tom, but he did not know how to tell Flynn. I take it that Tom could not deal with the Shame and Pain of having been raped. Having Noone to turn to he suffered, and then he threw himself infront of the train. Flynn realized too late that it was Tom that was raped, and was not able to find him and stop his Suicide.

mal abgesehen davon, dass der Film wirklich extrem gut ist, ist es traurig, dass er gar nicht so fiktiv ist wie man vermuten mag. Solche Leute gibt es wirklich. Die Rolle "Paul" ist wirklich sehr gut gespielt - weder übertrieben noch untertrieben; sie gibt solche Persönlichkeiten wirklich sehr gut wider; genau solche Leute hab ich kennengelernt... allerdings meist "Erwachsene". Von solchen antisozialen Typen hat man das Klischee im Kopf, dass man denen die Menschenverachtung ansieht..., was m. E. n. nur selten der Fall ist. Bei 18:41 muss ich unweigerlich ein Buch denken, dass ich kürzlich gesehen hab, und wirklich zur Situation passt - "Die Auferstehung des Mittelfingers".

Unglaublich guter Kurzfilm. Wie jeder in seiner Blase lebt und nicht mitbekommt, was mit seinem Gegenüber passiert. In diesem Film geht es nicht darum schwul oder anders zu sein, sondern darum sich wieder umeinander zu kümmern, empatisch füreinander zu sein. Nicht virtuell, sondern im richtigen Leben. Wir sind so sehr damit beschäftigt unser virtuelles Leben zu kreiern, Likes und Reaktionen zu bekommen und merken nicht (mehr) was um uns herum geschieht. Das ist bedenklich und höchst beängstigend. Dieser Film hilft sehr dabei sich wieder auf das Wesentliche zu konzentrieren. Die Mitmenschen in unserer unmittelbaren Umgebung!

boah krasser Film, ich hab Gänsehaut pur und der film hat mich so mega mitgerissen, das das ende mich sogar zum heulen gebracht hat. dieser film zeigt in all seinen Fassaden wie krass Mobbing ist und was in einem selbst passiert, wenn man gemobbt wird. man fühlt mit dem Protagonisten regelrecht mit. sehr schöner Kurzfilm und sehr zu empfehlen auch für schulen, um zu zeigen das Mobbing auf keinem Fall ok ist.

I'm assuming at the end Tom stepped in front of the train, just as Fynn had said had happened earlier. How very sad and true to life. Sometimes, we just don't pay enough attention to see the warning signs or listen enough to hear the cry for help. It's all very tragic and unfortunately how it happens in life. Very real-life event portrayal, wonderful acting, and really good cinematography. I enjoyed it, well done and keep up the amazing work you're doing.

@@sann5146 I don't think so. He's a friend who got out of touch. In the beginning they said it had been a while since they last saw each other. 1:18 2:40 Tom was socially isolated when the whole thing happened. 8:51 Which made it harder to ask for help. We can wonder if the reason why Fynn didn't talk to Tom during all this time was influenced by the bullying Tom went through. In the beginning Fynn also said that Paul was a funny guy, 2:54 and later on he says that he didn't remember all the rumors he spread 7:32 and he knew that people were bullied so it shows that Fynn wasn't a bully but he didn't do anything to help either. I think that's the message of this short film: reach out to your friends

Bully is one crime that is the hardest to tackle, especially in schools. The worst part, the one that got bullied seems always vulnerable. Get up guys. BE STRONG. STAY STRONG. Learn to say NO if you are not comfortable with people you know would bully you in any way. Stay away from them. Being alone may be sad. But it is still 10 times better than got bullied. Never worth the risk. Make connections with people you can rely on. Not with people that would make you feel belong in the "IN". Good luck.

How could homosexuality not be "one of them"? Whether any of the characters were gay or not, the gay slurs were central to the plot and indeed gay bashing among young guys is a constant. The slurs and put-downs are a part of group sports and prominent among some male friend-groups. I don't understand how one can separate gay-bashing and gay harassment from homosexuality. The homosexual is subject to this life-long if they are not hyper-masculine. The straight ring-leader in dishing out the harassment - both verbal and physical gains status by hurting those who are weak or vulnerable. l know some straight guys get this treatment also, but gay guys get the derision life-long and oftentimes internalize the shame of not being "normal". That is why suicide is very often the only option young gay men can imagine of escaping their torment. Fortunately, being gay is more accepted today than it was when I was young, and young questioning or gay men have places to go on-line for support and counsel. Hopefully lives will be saved.

Very well made! A horrible and unfortunately very realistic storyline. The quality of the film (camera, light, edit and so on) is higher than most short film, which makes it easy to listen and feel the story. Great actors! The storyteller did a wonderful job, and the authors lines for that character, at fist didn’t seem that special, but when all of the hints and undertones got pointed out at the end, it all seemed very clever written. And then the ending. Even though it seems so obvious now that I’ve seen it, it still took me by surprise. Ein toll inszenierter und schön erzählter Kurzfilm! Man merkt eure Leidenschaft und mit wie viel Herzblut ihr an das Projekt herangegangen seid. Ihr seid vielen weit voraus, die viel älter sind als ihr. Habt ihr vor das in einem Filmfestival einzureichen? Ich denke, dass euer Film das Potential dazu hat!!!

Der Film zeigt sehr deutlich, dass etwas wichtiges sehr vernachlässigt wird: Ein offenes persönliches Gespräch. Natürlich hätte ich mir ein gutes Ende gewünscht - wie auch immer das ausgesehen hätte. Aber die späte Erkenntnis könnte ein erster Schritt sein - so es noch nicht zu spät ist (was ich, nach einigen Kommentaren lesen, doch befürchte). Ich bedanke mich für den Film und möchte betonen: Gespräche sind außerordentlich wichtig und mindestens genauso wichtig ist es, seinem*r Gesprächspartner*in offen und aufmerksam zuzuhören.

wow.. ok das war.. wow.. einfach heftig. riesen großen respekt an euch jungs. ihr habt das thema, die gefühle und alles zusammen richtig gut rüber gebracht. ich denke ihr sprecht damit vielen jungen leuten aus der seele. jeder sollte sich die zeit nehmen und ab und an mal einfach zuhören. das passiert leider echt selten. und wenn doch, wird es nicht sonderlich ernst genommen. ich hoffe ihr könnt damit etwas bewegen. das hoffe ich wirklich. ich selbst hab mit sowas viele erfahrungen gemacht. bei weitem nich so krass (himmel sei dank) aber es war trotzdem nicht leicht. wenn jeder zuhören würde, und sich mit dem gehörten außeinender setzen würde, wäre die welt ein kleines bisschen besser. In diesem sinne, VIELEN DANK!

Und diese Masche funktioniert sogar, wenn jemand gar nicht schwul ist, vielleicht nur nicht so "männlich" (dämlich) wie andere. In jeder Klasse gab es immer schon so einen. Den Klassen-Außenseiter. In der modernen Welt der stets verfügbaren Kameras und der "sozialen" Medien sind sie noch schneller, öffentlicher und endgültiger Opfer als früher. Sie werden auch noch so verhöhnt. "Du Opfer!". Manches ist für Schwule heute leichter geworden. Das Verständnis und die Akzeptanz für sie ist heute größer geworden als zu meiner Zeit als Teen oder Twen. Aber die Welt ist auch unerbittlicher geworden. Mit Smartphones und WhatsApp/Facebook kann man Leute in Verzweiflung und Tod treiben. Deswegen darf niemand die "Pauls" oder "Fynns" dieser Welt mit Aufmerksamkeit belohnen. Für so ein Verhalten verdienen sie keine "Likes", keine "Follower", kein Ansehen. Eigentlich sind sie noch mehr als ihre Opfer nur arme Würste.

Das gefällt mir. Horen macht ein Held. I once asked a friend to see this. He didn't. I asked him to again. He still hasn't seen it He asked me to just explain it to him. I can't explain it now. It would make him feel bad for doing to me what fynn did to Tom. and he'd never watch it then. Maybe he isnt a friend to me.

Ich fühl total wie der Junge und finde es einfach nur scheisse wie er die ganze Zeit verarscht wird und sich dagegen auch nicht wehrt. Ich war früher auch so. Hatte null Freunde und wurde nur verarscht und gemobbt weil ich anders war während meiner ganzen Schulzeit. Inzwischen sind über 13 Jahre vergangen und heute will ich nur noch Menschen um mich haben die mir gut tun, auch wenn ich dadurch nur noch alleine bin. Mit denen ich zur Schule gegangen bin habe ich seit damals kein Kontakt mehr und möchte es auch nicht. Selbst eine Einladung zum Klassentreffen werfe ich direkt in den Müll.
