Listen, SimTrack and Dovetail. We've had ENOUGH of these Payware Re-skins ~ A Train Sim World 4 Rant

Just when you thought the recent 'GaMEpLAy PaCk' spam wasn't annoying enough, here comes SimTrack - a new 3rd-party developer - to add even more unwanted dribble. For their first Train Sim World 4 add-on, all they're doing is a payware reskin for the Class 323 on the Cross City Line, depicting unit No. 323221 in the Centro / Regional Railways livery as a modern-day heritage unit. That is a very bad look for your business, to start off with a pointless reskin that no-one asked for.
I hate gameplay packs because a) they are lazy cash-grabs and b) they add barely anything new to their respective routes, and it just looks to me like the higher-ups at DTG and Focus are so out-of-touch with their customers that they seriously think more gameplay packs are a good idea.

I don't expect any route extensions (even though SEHS needs to have the Sheerness Branch added), but I would at least like DTG and - especially - Rivet Games to update the existing routes to bring them up to a good standard of quality.

I won't be spending my money on some people who don't even try to do a good job. Everywhere I see are large and smaller problems. For example still no announcements or the PIS on order US routes have a British model. And the worst part is it is even getting worse! 10 euros for something like a gameplay pack! My passion for trains is big, but if Dovetail Games and third party developers keep rushing new routes and only reskins, I will leave this game and look somewhere else. What I would pay a 5£ for: -well made livery with licensed operator that wasn’t in the game before -adds existing rolling stock to at least one additional route -minimum 5 scenarios -full scale timetable implementation (80-200 services depending on route type), but proper runs! Not just 5 minute services that would otherwise just be AI services to make a single station look busier. Also not just substitution but actual new services That would be what I‘d call a “gameplay pack“

Issue with seeing a license not seen in tsw is whether they are willing to give permission. Some tocs say absolutely not or the license is very difficult to obtain. Some are easy to get. So it would have to be a operator already in tsw. Sometimes a full scale timetable implementation is less than that. A railtour pack for example would just have a couple services. A loco dlc aka new train might be something a route needs to really add traffic depending on the rolling stock.

Unlike the actual developers there actually LISTENING (capitalised due to the lack of developers who do) to the community. And we've seen this with the MML instead of being thrown out like a DTG or rivet product be worked on and even now it's still being fished and even reworked to make it more realistic. Yes the release was horrible but atleast skyhook aren't just letting people moan and acting like the issues don't exist. Now as for the rest... yeah there not particularly good...

Sadly that might not happen as DTG had lost their licences to first group, first group being the one who owned avanti. Hence why there is a lack of modern routes related to first group such as west Cornwall local, had to do the BR era because they didn’t have the license to do it anymore.

Dlc content I’d pay for is if they released additional scenario/timetable packs for existing routes whether it includes a new loco or not, but they just abandon routes and it’s beyond frustrating. They have zero problem having freight and passenger scenarios on British and German routes but the US routes they give you bs promises for adding freight and never do and tease you with static freight cars in routes that don’t have it and when you try to contact them they ignore you everytime and when or if they ever add custom consist’s it will render these livery packs useless entirely as you can just plug creator club livery into scenario/timetable mode and have what the devs refuse to fix. Cajon pass STILL DOESNT HAVE THE UNION PACIFIC es44c4 fixed it just shows up as these annoying blue non lettered locos and even if you payed for the UP sd70aCe and even tho on cajon they appear on the route you still can’t use them on cajon. I’m so over it these problems are literally 5 minute fixes and they just ignore it while making 35-40 million a year

Harlem, NY-Trenton, Boston-providence, and antelope valley all have static freight you never get to touch, horseshoe curve has one single yard Scenario despite having four yards, cajon pass, peninsula corridor both have industries all over the place you never get a scenario for, Cheyenne-Laramie has very minimal industry scenarios and the ones that are on there are point a, swap five tankers, replace with 5 tankers, back to point A. Done. Beyond irritating I’d pay 10-20$ for additional scenario/timetable packs just to have more than 100 scenarios in a route with half of those being repeats. If they make excuses saying it can’t handle more I’ll always bring up the numerous British routes that have 1500-3000+ plus and there’s zero issues with those

Oakville, cajon pass, Cheyenne, antelope valley, sand patch, have Amtrak long distance or Canada via rail p42’s yet still zero passenger service. New York-Trenton on tsw2 had sw1500 Amtrak and csx gp40-2 (both loco dlc have never been transferred over left forgotten)

No really, if a timetable needs improving massively, it's going to be Joe who takes initiative but he can't do everything by himself. Unless the other timetable guys don't make any new content at all to make it happen on all the older content. With content constantly being made, dtg would need a new team just on creating new tts. A lack of a 170 or ANY of the turbostar family in TSW 2/3/4 always bothered me since forever. I always hated the fact that the lack of it always hindered the ECW, and BCC routes in everyway shape or form. If ScamTrack wanted to do the Centro livery for the 323, Why not restore it to its 1990s condition and include a retro timetable for it instead, Included would be the Class 304(Which ironically have ALSO ran on the Cathcart Circle Lines), Class 308, and class 310 Units to run alongside the 323 in the transitional period. OR if youre going to make the class 323 Reskin payware at the very least include it alongside A Class 170

Mine would be the 21.5 miles of the Sheffield Supertram set in the modern day there is street running sections and running on its own sections on standard guage 2 pieces of motive power Class 399 tram train and the siemens duewag tram you would get all the livery actually on the fleet and be able to drive across the entire network with 7 scenarios and a full timetable. 4 lines blue Halfway - Malin Bridge, yellow Meadowhall interchange - middlewood park and ride, purple herdings park - Cathedral but could also change destination and go to Meadowhall or halfway for example could be a scenario for that and the tram train cathedral - Rotherham Parkgate using the class 399

I think that - after the Cargo reskin shit from Skyhook - this is the worst payware reskin ever made for the game. I have used the livery editor one or two times (also on EMUs) and I am pretty sure it would only take 3--4 hours to create a decent implementation of this livery. At least we can now be pretty certain that SimTrack routes (if they ever make some) will not be something worth buying.

This is the problems we as consumers tons of reskin packs not needed as we can make our own livery the only real one I don't mind are the Rail operations 37 that looks interesting it's a 37 with a special coupler, TPWS, modern sort of desk layout. It also includes a white non refurbished 375 which I agree should of had more variants. Route concepts that are so stupid and have ridiculous cut off points examples great western express London Paddington - Reading should of gone up to Bristol temple meads or Didcot parkway midland mainline Nottingham - Leicester - Derby should be Nottingham - Leicester - Derby - Sheffield. DTG are taking the piss with us and our wallets.

You have to bare in mind licensing and the owners rights. There are rules. That’s why you don’t see many say on CC as they get taken down due to copyright infringement or licensing issues. And they wonder why yet blame DTG. DTG has a responsibility to protect what goes on under fair use on its site and services. To protect against any miss use of trademarks they don’t have the rights of use. As they could also be liable and so could be the creator depending on the extent of breach on owners rights. “droit moral” Or the 4 Moral rights of copyright law,,,is a basic principle when copying anyones work,,,never mind a company.

It's not just art. These can also come with new passenger coaches or freight wagons, extra services and scenarios that are more in depth compared to scenario designer. In SD, you are limited in what you can do if some or most track is unusable and you can't really do complex procedures. Of course pc players have the editor.

I actually enjoy these gameplay packs. Some of them add unique scenarios and services and it's nice to see some variation in the liveries. Some add additional freight wagon or passenger coaches. They also provide layering opportunities to future routes. The only ones I don't buy are the ones where I don't like the style of route. Some of these packs take a while to make or add a lot of things so some are well worth the price. They aren't all bad and I'm more than happy to purchase these to add more gameplay to the route. It's not required to buy everything and I'll get what I like. The ones I have gotten have been really enjoyable.

Business is gonna do what business does, separate people from their money for the minimal input and maximum return. Always been so. The customer is always right kinda doesn't apply to this scenario that saying is about the service offered to a customer in terms of honesty of how you describe a product which isn't really in debate it says it's a reskin and that it sure is, how you deal with subsequent issues with your product, if it had faults will they be rectified or refunded if it can be reasonably pinned on the business not the customer misusing the product. It doesn't mean you, to use an analogy, can walk into a green grocery and complain they have no meat and demand they become a butcher shop simply because you have money in your pocket to spend on something you desire, maybe a nice steak in this hypothetical situation, maybe a new route in the train simulator related one. A better way to put it would be "understand your potential customers wants and needs" Even then the idea of the customer being right has it's limitations because as any business owner past or present will tell you customers can be just as wrong as anyone else involved in the chain of transactions that brings you the end product.

I buy it because it's the only train sim there is. Even though I'm a pc player, I have zero interest in other simulators like simrail or zusi as they lack in many ways. Simrail has no singleplayer content and no save game. Even the tutorials can be questionable. Zusi is too hardcore. Derail valley is an arcade open world simulator. Drs has some wonky controls and only the trains are realistic. Hmmsim which I have is also too hardcore and from the consumer side, there is almost no updates and communication. Other sims like railroader or century of steam are also not my interest. So that leaves me with no other train sim.

Once again, excellent points made in this video. It's probably worth pointing out that these reskin packs are becoming more abundant as it's cheap cash. Lowest effort possible to make money. The MSFS Marketplace is jammed with such crapware. The only difference is there's an epic ton of of weirdos that will buy that stuff vs TSW's miniscule player base. But even with a small player base there will always be the children and the barely technically competent geriatrics that will buy up such products because "ohh shiny!". And since they bring in some form of income, they'll keep getting made. @@Class422If we take a quick look at other packs that provide the same experience (scenarios, a new livery, yadeyadeya), such as the silver 1972 stock, they present better (not good, but better) value for money at £2.99. The additions to this new reskin are so minimal it’s laughable, when I’ve seen many mods online that recreate this livery easily, and to a high standard, for free. Yes I am aware that I, Tauranga nor anyone else relatively critical towards Dovetail or third party developers, can’t stop anyone from buying packs like this - it’s personal preference after all - but that doesn’t stop the criticism at all. Being a ‘new dev’ isn’t really an excuse when Just Trains hops into the TSW scene with one of the best TSW addons in terms of quality.

You've got a good point. Train Sim Germany and Just Trains knocked it out of the park with their Niddertalbahn and Blackpool routes respectively, which makes SimTrack's 323 reskin look very feeble by comparison.

It honestly shows that games like TRS19 is SO much better then Train Simulator Classic and TSW, not because there's more choice with whatthe Thomas fandom can do, but that fact there’s many reskins in game models and from what I can see, ALL OF THEM ARE FREE! I understand you've had enough of these payware reskins, and is expressing your opinion and sure, everyone deserves to be heard, but endlessly lashing out may be your donefall. I mean, look at Coppa for example. I only complained anout once. Just once. I haven’t complain about since I failed to appeal it. Again, I know you’ve had enough of it, but maybe try to let it go and focus on videos that you put more effort in.

Trs isn't even a real life train simulator lol. Plus it has its own problems and business decisions I don't like such as the subscription model in order to download quickly

TRS19 is terrible. Dovetail's products have problems, but at least it's not abyss quality like Auran's content.

Yes, I'm well aware of the fact that I don't have to buy the 323 reskin; that goes without saying. As for why I'm so angry / harsh in these videos, it's because I still enjoy playing TSW sometimes and I want it to be as good as possible. But at the same time, I'm tired of the developers churning out overpriced and low-effort DLC, and I don't want the game to be spoiled by those business practices.

He has every right to express his view even if you may not agree. Also not buying a product does not make it immune from criticism. You didn't have to watch this video. Nobody held a gun to your head to watch this
