Chillingly Sondheim, the juxtaposition of an upbeat (dare I say hummable?) melody accompanying psychotic ravings. God that’s good…

I shows this to my mother with no context and she said it was the most beautiful love song in musical theatre. Can’t wait to show her the full show 😏!

There’s an essential sweetness to Adam’s voice that even these lyrics can’t take away.

I know what you mean but do wonder if “sweetness” is the word? It seems like nakedness, which to me is similar to the genius of Barbra Streisand, where voice and expression and style form a single, unique musical sound (that seriously life would be less without). I’m totally fanboying! Haha! But I honestly think there are few people with the skill to match the high-level honesty they can bring to the table. It’s art.

This was absolutely the most beautiful and haunting rendition of this duet that I’ve heard. It gave me chills but also brought tears to my eyes.

The best version of this song I've heard in 20+ years. You both killed it. I have chills. I'm beside myself, agog. Lovely, lovely, way to go.

This song is so creepy when you think about it. Assassins is one of Sondheim’s best scores.

Shit, is that Ethan Slater? I had no clue he could play guitar!

Yeah in this interpretation The Balladeer played by Ethan Slater also accompanies the show on guitar throughout the show.
@michaelwilliamybarra24092 жыл бұрын
@@musiciangamer5506 Honestly, Just from listening to the 1991 Off Broadway cast recording, I always pictured The Balladeer as someone who would play the guitar(be it live or just miming it) while singing the ballads of the successful assassins on stage(especially switching up to the banjo, electric guitar, etc. for each time period/song). I’m surprised this wasn’t done before in either the 1991 off Broadway production OR the 2004 Broadway production, according to the bootlegs available, as it was with Jonathan Hinkley Jr. While Hinkley himself recorded songs of him singing and playing the guitar, a character named “The Balladeer” just SCREAMS the image of somebody who would accompany themselves and their pieces on at least SOME kind portable instrument! Wouldn’t you agree? P.S. I know it’s not an actual requirement, and that there are balladeers that perform with no instrument in hand(and said instrument is played by a band mate and so fourth), but I meant this for when the aesthetic of the Balladeer’s costume doesn’t already cover the general image of a balladeer.
