The stones and old Roman numerals clock plays a big role in British society and goes back to our ancestry heritage which made our ancestors very happy and proud and l believe more people felt like me lost and sad same as our ancestors would had felt. The Main hour bell 'Big Ben' Is so loud it would risk deafening workers that are working around the clock face and belfry. So they have to be silenced until work has finished which it almost has now. TheCycloneable I find that comment very offensive. Why should it only be Britons who will be affected by the silence of the world's most famous bell?! It's importance and symbolism and prominence reaches out across the world otherwise why would it be so famous and historically important? Repairs need to be made to the tower, and the mechanism and accuracy of the clock itself therefore Ben can't chime until this vital work has been completed. In the hearts of people around the world Ben is only having a short sleep, he's not silent to those who hear and love the chimes in the mind !

jalen matthew I also live in America. I am an Anglophile. Ever since 1994 when I heard the King's College Choir sing O Little Town of Bethlehem, the FOREST GREEN tune, of course. I am not impressed by the American tune (St Louis) for O Little Town of Bethlehem. Forest Green is the best melody ever composed. I would visit Cambridge, London and Surrey if flying didn't make my ears pop.
