Thanks for the reaction! This was an interesting project to work on! For a little more context on how it came about and the choices made within, I wrote and produced this project myself in-house based on a loose concept script provided by Mob Entertainment. All of the props (and Huggy!) were re-used from my previous Poppy Playtime music video. We did the rough edit but then sent that over to Mob for them to tidy up the edit and do all of the post production and VFX. The initial brief called for a video that got steadily creepier as it went, with the tape degrading and the host looking less and less comfortable/more forced as the video progressed, eventually going off the rails. The script I wrote called for a lot more degradation and glitches, corrupted cutaways to creepy shots, and we DID film more shots to that effect, including more takes where the host starts to lose it. Interestingly after we sent the video to Mob to edit at *lot* of that ended up on the cutting room floor. I'm not sure if they felt we went too hard or if they decided to go in a different direction, but the end result is a video that only seems to half commit to the idea of the video getting corrupt and unsettling at the end. The glitches aren't stitching takes together, they're just glitches. The ending, for example, was supposed to be me awkwardly waving as the sounds of screaming steadily overtook the audio on the tape. Instead I just end up stood there waving for a while. All in all I am super grateful for the chance to work with Mob on this, I'm so happy they reached out to me, it was super fun! But I do also wish I had had time to do the final edit myself, I think the video would have ended up making a bit more sense. xD

For the musical theatre suggestions; Starkid have been uploading full original musicals on KZbin for free since 2009. They typically did parody stuff back in the day but, since 2018, they’ve been creating stage musicals and an anthology series all set within one fantastic theatrical universe. It’s horror-comedy and the music is insane. Lots of LORE to obsess over!

In terms of musicals - and I particularly like this one because of how it’s structured - one of my favorite, lesser known musicals, has to be Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812! It’s based off of War and Peace, specifically revolving around the problems of Natasha, where her fiancé’s off at war, and Pierre’s search and dive into philosophy. I truly think it is a gorgeous musical that has gone relatively under the radar!

I've been watching you since I was in Highschool. You being a thespian nerd gave me someone to look up to (also couple's goal of you and Steph) because of you I felt brave enough to create my own major in college, "The Arts in Theme Parks". My cat and I were fascinated by your blending of video games and science, and with all your musical theatre jokes, inspired me to look into the science of music, theatre, and performances. During my last year of college, your videos comforted me through an abusive relationship, as well as gave me ideas and topics for various senior capstone projects. You and the Theory Team were my one constant while i moved across the country to live on my own for the first time, because I was starting my dream internship, the first step into building my dream career with my dream company: Walt Disney World Parks. When my relationship failed, a family member died, and another was getting ill and need someone to help take care of, I left my dream to help my family, but your theories always kept my brain whirling. 5 years later I'm trying to pull myself back up, watching GTLive even on my darkest nights. I would be absolutely honored to help out with a musical theatre theory episode if ever possible.

Stress on suggesting that's what he's going to want. I love their choice on not forcing him to be recorded for all of KZbin to see. Again. I would LOVE to see a theatre nerd-out between you and Ash!! I don't know how obscure you're going with “lesser-known musical theatre" but here are my suggestions: - Ride the Cyclone by Brooke Maxwell and Jacob Richmond, specifically “The Ballad of Jane Doe” - Ruthless! by Marvin Laird and Joel Paley, “Born to Entertain” is a favorite song from that show - The Wild Party by Andrew Lippa, Idina Menzel singing “The Life of the Party” is incredible! - The Bridges of Madison County by Marsha Norman and Jason Robert Brown, anything sung by Steven Pasquale on the Broadway cast recording makes me melt - Falsettos by William Finn and James Lapine, this has so many great songs but my favorite is “I’m Breaking Down” - The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee by William Finn and Rachel Sheinkin, also has a lot of great songs in this one but I really like “The I Love You Song”

I live in Europe so basically, all of my experiences with musicals are just song playlists on KZbin Music and some very underrated songs are definitely from Something Rotten. It's about the Renaissance and the plot you can get from the music is Shakespeare and Nick Bottom fighting about who is a better writer, one of the songs is literally about eegs but then you get Shakespear singing about how hard it is to be the bard and is hilarious and amazing at the same time. It's really underrated and worth listening to.
