I still find it incredible that this movie came out in 1984, yet this segment really does look and sound like it was from 15 years earlier.

I like that instead of having any kind of message of their own they just to listen to some other people.

In typically mind-expanding fashion, Spinal Tap never actually inform the listener as to *what* the flower people have to tell us that is of such cosmic importance. Far out, man.

Just wanna say, if the Tap ever make another record they should call it Birds & Mirrors. I envision Yes-like album cover artwork featuring infinite birds peering into mirrors, searching for the truth.

This was shortly after they changed the name from The Thamesmen - I believe that the death of Eric "Stumpy Joe" Childs and the hiring of Peter "James" Bond for the ~ Spinal Tap Sings "(Listen to the) Flower People" and Other Favourites ~ album was the impetus for the name change...No-one seems to recall whether any of E"SJ"C's parts made it onto that record. That's P"J"B on the drums here in the video, and you can see the name "Spinal Tap" on the head of the kick drum.

The song has about the same chord progression as David Bowie's songs "Fantastic Voyage" and "Boys Keep Swinging," which he wrote with the same changes as an inside joke on his Lodger album from 1979. Maybe the songwriters are in on the joke? (That, or it's just a common progression.)

I feel like these guys would be the ones to be in on something like that. The references in this movie are very deep it seems.

Does Mrs. Murphy's Chowder have "magic mushrooms"? I'm betting it does and this helps one to listen...and write a catchy parody. Move over Rutles, you've been served.
