I always get lots of Red-winged Blackbirds here in Northeastern Ontario ☺ I love their call.

Heard my first one of the year yesterday (March 11, 2023) in my local conservation area. This fellow was the first back in the area for 2023 and I'm sure he'll have more in the coming days. Love to hear that call on my hikes. Thanks for sharing - great footage!

although I know it is a different bird this reminds me of when the Common Grackle males do their puff-up display if they draw too close to one another over a feeding area.. they make a similar sounding call to the Red-winged Blackbird 😅 thank you for the footage!

I think they’re both considered blackbirds so it makes sense that they would have some similarities 😊

Have many on my farm and house in Arkansas.Most sighted bird in state.Hear their calls all day long during warmer months.They don't visit my feeders,maybe a bath now and then.I do like them but they can be a little noisy,but that's ok.When they are around,it means warm weather.

Every year around February Redwings fly to my South Florida home. I place food out and relish in the thought they come back to my tree, in my yard...till about April then leave. I have been loving the return call of the redwing for over 20 yrs now

Red winged blackbirds are members of the family Icteridae, which also includes grackles and cowbirds.

I had them the beginning of summer but not for at least a month or more. 🤔 I grew up with them around here so... not sure where they went. I'm in southwest Michigan. Got my other backyard friends. But maybe they left because of a hawk I've seen... (#backyardhuntcleanup🙄)

@@BirdsWalkingDown Thank you. That might make sense because we had a lot of wetness at first. We even had a mallard duck pair show up for about a week! There's a house with a wet area next to us. But more homes have been built & we don't have as many critters now.
@kylemacdonald986 Жыл бұрын
I live in ny. They show up right around now then disappear. I've always assumed other birds like blue Jay's scare them off

The illustrated bird in the thumbnail isn't correct. The markings and the eye color are wrong. It looks like a hybrid between a red-winged and an eastern towhee.

i agree with your stance and take it a step further i strongly dislike them. they nest in my backyard and get really buthurt as soon as i go outside. constantly squaking fake diving and hissing at us and im not really sure i would call their song beautiful either it sounds very shrill to me and with the number of them around here around soundset they all go ham not so chill
