I edited the "someone's calling me" bit of the chorus into a ringtone for my phone. Have yet to meet anyone else with the same, so it fulfills its purpose. And yeah, that Gentle-Giant-esque bit in the middle hits everyone like that. And yeah, those drums are almost certainly including some samples. As for great Haken, "Falling Back to Earth" remains my favorite track by them. It goes places, has a real punch to it, does a few things differently, but still feels very much like a Haken song. The Mountain remains their best album, I think.

If you do more Haken you should do Veil. I just listened to it for a second time on my drive home and it jams so hard.

Another awesome reaction video. On the drums. Ray Hearne uses a sampler mounted on his actual kit and he frequently uses it for samples and trigger type effects. You can hear it used heavily in the track 1985. Same thing here. Anyhow I digress I had the same feelings about this song the first couple listens. Much as I absolutely love Haken, the first couple times I attempted this track, I didn’t make it past the second verse. Just couldn’t see 20 minutes of that being interesting, but the more listens, and the more you start appreciating the overall track, mainly due to the second half. They have 3 big monstrous 20 minute pieces they do. Celestial Elixir, Crystallised, and Visions. I know you’ve done two of those. Best get to the third.

Moritz Wieder I’m a sucker for a good chorus and the first couple listens the chorus didn’t grab me. I’m definitely past that and love the track. It would absolutely go on a top 10 Haken playlist for me now

I love this song, and also had a great time listening with your thoughts throughout the piece, Jim. Thanks for bringing more Haken reactions :) I just want to suggest another epic song from a band that's criminally underrated. It's a brazilian band that's heavily influenced by more mature progressive metal bands, but I truly believe that they've succesfully created a master piece. Maestrick - The Seed Thank you once again, Jim. I really like to see your reactions!

I actually highly enjoy the first and 'last' parts more than the middle, personal taste. That being said, the first is SO good at doing what it's doing. It's all telling a story and the build-up to the character I suppose 'finding' himself in a sense. I love it.

I don't know why, but I haven't listened to Haken, really. Must get into their music. They're supporting Devin Townsend on his Europian tour. This sounds very much like The Flower Kings, so I should like this!

@BallTistic Screecher Are you kidding me Devin might be supported by... Kiss, for all I care. If you can't hear the musicianship in this, then you might clean your ears first. Haken is absolutely unparallel.

My father would have absolutely loved this if he was still alive. He was very big on stuff like Soft Machine, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Magma... As for me, not so much. It's a bit too "happy" and jazzy for my taste. I do acknowledge it's good stuff, just not my cuppa.

Also what you said about the drums during the Song... the timing is spanning over several smaller parts.. its one continuous rythm that switches from On to offbeat due to it being slightly longer than the parts the rest of the band play. Its a really nice Thing to do in Prog.

This song sorta sounds like it’s out of a musical. It’s very proggy, but in more of a musical theater way than most other prog songs.

Nerdy mashup of classic and modern prog (Yes, King Crimson and Gentle Giant meet Pain of Salvation, Tool and Dream Theater), sadly nothing in it where i could say: wow, that's something fresh and new. which, on the other hand, happens with 99.9% of modern rock music as well. the genre is pretty much done since years and all we get now are copies from copies from copies in different orders and colors.
