Looking really good, I think I have this picture must look for it, I have the Luminance pencils, I got the Derwent Lightfast as well and put them together in a case they seem about the same in quality but there are some different colours. Interesting about the paper, I have Neena which is a bit smooth, then I have something that’s 67lb which is ok and 120 which is a bit toothy. I got from Amazon. Haven’t tried toned paper.
@ArtbyKarenValentine2 жыл бұрын
Paper is such a subjective thing. What seems like the best paper in the world to some may be very disliked by others. I prefer a smoother paper over a toothy paper myself.

Karen, I enjoyed your tutorial so much and learned some things too. I just happened to have all of the Luminence colors you used but your skin still looks better than mine. I'm not unhappy about that because I know you've been coloring longer than me and you are much younger. I color with my right hand and unfortunately my right hand shakes a little. I'm very glad you talked about paper. I started out with a very toothy paper that was recommended by the colorist whose tutorials I was watching on KZbin. I was so frustrated! Then I read your description on one of your pictures you posted on Friends... You said you used Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper, so I bought a pad. I love it!!! Thank you.

hi Karen, on your lines on your paper - having said you are using a straight feed printer perhaps check that none of the rollers have any dirt specks on them as this will drag across your paper as it feeds :) picture looks amazing, and i cant actually see the lines just FYI

Thank you for that suggestion kiwimumx3! They are faint but I can definitely see them close up. Thankfully the pencil is covering them up pretty well. 😊

KZbin suggested this video and I'm so glad it did. I'm trying to learn to color skin and your work is fantastic! I'm so sorry you lost the audio on your first video, but you might consider uploading it anyway if you have the colors you're using listed on the screen. I know some colorists do not use audio in their videos. No pressure, just seems such a waste when you worked so hard. Either way, thanks for a fabulous Mariola Budek coloring tutorial series!!!

Karen did you know the Strathmore pencil paper has a smooth side, it’s not completely smooth, but it is smoother on one side. I am still hunting for the perfect pencil paper, I must have 8 reams of paper from people telling me this or that paper is the best! ❤️❤️

You mentioned Strathmore Bristol paper. Do you use the smooth or vellum variety? You also said the Recollections paper i this picture is smooth yet I can see a definite vertical texture. Is that just me? I just discovered your channel and I can't believe you've only been doing this for a year. Two thumbs up from me.🎨♿👵Barb N.
@ArtbyKarenValentine4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Barb!! I like the Strathmore Bristol Smooth. The Recollections card 110lb card stock is very similar and switched to it because it’s cheaper but there is no texture in it. It must be a trick of the camera. Many colorists find both papers too smooth for pencils, but I almost love them. Papers like colored pencil paper and toned tan paper just have too much tooth for me. 😊

I love your videos. 2 questions. Do you use a laser or ink jet printer and is your paper white or ivory? I ask because it looks ivory in the video. Thanks so much!!
@ArtbyKarenValentine4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lisa! Thank you. 🥰 My printer is an inkjet printer. My paper is closer to white than ivory. I think it’s just the lighting. I’m still playing around with finding just the right lighting for the videos because it seems to wash out the color of the pencil work a little bit.
