Great stuff! The entire Ozrics catalog is superb, and the latest release "Space For the Earth" is one of their best imo. Also, Ed Wynne and Gre Vanderloo (of Gracerooms) put out an album a few months ago, "Tumbling Through the Floativerse", and it's excellent. Try out "Pelmonauts" -- it's a modern take on "Shaping the Pelm". Cheers!

It is really nice seeing someone who is not off their face on dope, and can appreciate the amazing sound of the Ozrics. My favourite of theirs is Paper Monkeys.

That growling bass at the start of the first track is a preset from the prophet 600 synth, it's called sleeping orgs

@@DVDFRMN Joie used a prophet 600 throughout the 80s, I must have seen them 50 times back then, Joie always had his prophet 600, Roland SH5, and Oscar, In the early 90s he bought his Roland W30 sample workstation. Edit: Ed has a ProOne

Seriously, seriously !? I'm 57 years old, love (almost) all genres of music, but prog rock in particular, and never ever hear of this band ! I'm disappointed with myself!! So, thank you so much Jim for introducing me to the amazing OzricTentacles. What a band they are. And by the way, what do you guys drink or smoke in Britain to deliver, for decades, a plethora of astonishing music? I would like some answers. Thanks once again!!

thanks Jim for the wonderful music, my show yesterday was fabulous, fantastic and full of happiness ! wow ! now I'm shoping for the next one ! you have 20,3 k of subs, yesterday I saw maybe 15000 people, didn't count, but a medium crowd, so imagine 20 000 is a lot of people !

So glad I discovered your channel! Ozrics are my all-time favourite group and it's not even close. Its amazing how despite 20 odd studio albums, every record is worth a listen in their own way. Ultimately I agree their debut is the most consistent probably though.

OK, I'm sold. I'm glad you brought up the lack of '80s drum sound. In fact, the whole thing is very un-'80s, effects-wise, which is splendid.

One of the first OT cd's I bought was this album, though Strangeitude was the first one. Heard it while standing in Our Price, Canterbury and bought it. Don't forget to check more from the mind of Ed Wynne with Nodens Ictus while not forgetting the ethereal sounds of The Steve Hillage Band.

Listened to their Erpland album today. It was quite a while ago I listened to that album. Also listened to A Produce’s album Inscape and Landscape. Great electronic music.

hi, jim. every single part is fantastic. yes, i feel the same way about Psi Fi (by Seventh Wave). i love prog for it's variety and diversity and creativity. no other genre of music demands so much from our musical mind. i am truly agog in the ether ~ 🌜

Ozrics were crucial to the 90's prog resurgence. Yeah, there were neo-prog bands floating around but they all seemed mired in a sort of Genesis-circa-1977 time warp, whereas Ozrics sounded totally fresh (despite the obvious Hawkwind/Gong references). All those ethno-trance elements were very new, especially to Americans. They gave prog fans something they could listen to that wasn't just a rehash of all those 70's bands, and that wouldn't embarrass them when hanging with their friends who were listening to Radiohead. Fun fact: Ed Wynn's (Ozric's leader/guitarist/synth player) dad was a sculptor, and among his friends and patrons was none other than George Harrison.

A while since I've heard this. I saw them live back around this time and they were extremely good but they seemed to stay very samey so I started giving them a miss after the first 3 albums. Coming back to Pungent Effulgent today I was struck by how very like Gong some parts were (You've probably heard 'Isle of Everywhere') and how some parts certainly found their way to The Orb and even early Porcupine Tree (Voyage 34) Glad you enjoyed it but I'll probably wait a while before I dig it out again.

I remember an interview with Ed in 'Freakbeat' magazine. Can't remember which track but Ed said one of the tracks was completely created at Foel Studios in Wales while they were spannered on Psilcybin mushrooms that grew all around the Studio.... i think it is Ayervedic maybe, Shaping the Pelm must be entirely Ed done at Rushmere, i think Wreltch was on 'the bits between the bits' cassette so that was likely recorded in London? maybe there is more info in the reissues? i know when Brandi was in the band she was good at finding out who did what on the old tunes and credited each on the reissues

No it cant be Ayurvedic that was all done on mushrooms at Foel Studio, i recognise another track within in it.... 'Eye of Adia' is on the bits between the bits and if you listen closely it is use as part of ayurvedic from 9:07 and overdubbed onto..... the 'eye of adia' track extends to 11:40 ...... Ed used another track to link the 2 parts of Ayurvedic
