The joy I felt when you declared I Almost Do a favorite (probably #1), because I feel it's under appreciated. It's one of my favorites of RED too, would be #1, but...Begin Again exists, and its effect of hopefulness after being personally hurt by the heartbreak that was RED, takes the crown for me. Can't wait for your reaction to the vault tracks.

Saw the laugh about "10 kids" in Starlight. Song is was inspired by an old 1947 photo of Bobby & Ethyl Kennedy --- and they had 10 kids before he was assassinated in 1968. Great song. She has called her backup singers The Starlights since Red. (Her band is called either The Agency or sometimes The Swift Agency. They did a sort of joke riff on a MIB/ Matrix theme in her video for Picture to Burn and sometimes dressed all in black on stage).

@ajeebdastaan647 yes and no, it's obviously a metafor that she got from actual events but there's no reason for her to say "oh, it's the scarf my ex kept and wore a few times after we broke up" without OPENLY implying who the song it's about, we all know it's about Jake, but she will never say something that can connect the song to him.

My favorite acoustic renditions of her is Cornelia Street as well as Dancing with our hands tied. They're just so ethereal😩😩. Edit: The past mixes bury her vocals under instrumentals cause her voice back then sounded weak and thin, but now, it could be at the forefront since it's very full.

RED showed a significant move from her. Like she poured her best writing skills and amazing production together. That record was too ahead of its time. Like everyone was against her cause her team labelled it as Country. Now she labelled it as Pop. There's why some songs sound more like in a Pop territory than Country. But this album remains as one of her best albums out there.

I heard somewhere that on all Taylor’s albums there seems to be a song that fits the previous album and a song that fits the following album. Red definitely fits in this description at least, in my opinion. I agree with you on all the songs you picked out from this album, they are my favorites, too, including a few of the vault tracks. I agree with the acoustic versions of Taylor’s songs being some of the better renditions. I feel like you can hear the little nuances of emotion in the voice more clearly that way.

I found it really interesting that she chose to change almost completely the song "Girl at Home" into a more pop version. She has never really done that, all of the (TV) songs have been almost identical. I think with this one the original version was a bit... for her standards.. maybe generic? Still great but compared to the rest of the album a bit underwhelming. And possibly not what she originally envisioned for the song. It was a super cool surprise knowing the original and hearing the new version for the first time and it being a completely different song! She is just so talented and creative.
@jtw.1113 жыл бұрын
I think she changed it because she was aware that the original Girl At Home wasn't exactly beloved by fans. So there wouldn't be a bunch of backlash for changing it because very few people are emotionally attached to it lol

I have listened to Girl at Home (TV) since release. I can't say I cared much for the original other than for the hook, and I didn't ever play it. Since this version is weird electropop and has a good hook it's exactly my kind of song. [harsh, excessive critic to the original redacted]
@xamfoam14383 жыл бұрын
the actual confirmed reason is that the song on the original album was a demo. they were on a deadline, and didn’t have any finished songs left, so they put that demo on the album. this was her finally finishing it, and it’s her original vision of the song.

Red scarf: to answer your question, the best and most accurate answer that I could find, going back to 2012 when all too well first captivated my heart, is that the red scarf is mostly a metaphor for her virginity, however there was an actual scarf that she had and in the spoils of war that breakups are, she did lose that scarf. I actually wrote a short paper on this in college for an English creative writing class. As mentioned previously below, the scarf was blue and there were paparazzi photos of her wearing it with him, and later him wearing it after they broke up. Now one could argue that who the scarf originally belonged to could actually have been him, but that much we will never know. The first time the scarf was actually show as red was in the short film video, no where in the song does she describe the scarf as red. The only time she ever describes the color red are ‘almost ran the red’ and ‘cheeks were turning red’- things that describe him/his actions.

The original version of girl at home is a country acoustic song, but Taylor originally made it like the Taylor’s version, but as you said the label didn’t want red to be a pop album, so they made her change arrangement, but the original doesn’t hit as hard so it became a bonus track, that was hated for a long time, but since she is doing her version of the albums she decided to put the version she originally made

But the way she incorporate the scarf at the beginning & at the end is so genius (i think).. & she also flipping her hair/head..headbanging BUT she never play All Too Well with guitar during all her life performance..she plays piano..& headbanging while playing piano..except, when she plays it as a surprise song during Reputation Tour (just her & the guitar) & of course during the SNL performance + during premiere All Too Well (acoustic - just her & guitar).. & ya..she owns 22...i bet ALL her swifties + fans + some who's not even her fans, plays 22 during their 22 birthday.. But i also bet, she NEVER gonna wrote 22 IF Jake turns up for her 21st birthday & stays loyal to her.. Red means so much to lot of swifties..most of us grew up with her.. The original Girl At Home actually is a country song! It was mostly guitar with some minimal synths to back it. It was considered one of Taylor’s worst songs by the fandom for a long time. Girl At Home (Taylor’s Version) is the only song that doesn’t try to replicate the original (although all the lyrics are the same). Now, to me personally, Girl At Home is one of my favorites from Red, although some say they prefer the original production and wish she’d kept it. I think the reason it was changed was because originally Taylor wrote it to be a pop song, however her manager wanted her to have as many country songs on Red as possible, forcing Taylor to use Girl At Home’s demo as the track instead. Now, Red belongs to Taylor and she can do anything she’d like to with her work and she decided to make Girl At Home a true 1989-esque pop song! There really wasn’t any value in the original Girl At Home anyways, as it was by far the least popular and least streamed song on Red. By the way, Ronan was actually a charity single that wasn’t on the album originally, however with permission from Ronan’s mother it was rerecorded and placed on Red so it could reach more people. A similar situation happened with Today Was A Fairytale, which isn’t in any way similar to Ronan lyrically but shared its status as a stand alone single in Taylor’s discography. Today Was A Fairytale was placed on Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and I can’t wait to see where she places her other singles that weren’t originally on albums!

I think the key to the "scarf" line is "and you've still got it in your drawer even now." She left the scarf at his sister's place, but HE's the one who has it now. I am positive of course that he doesn't actually still have the scarf now. I think it's more a metaphor about her wishful thinking that he's still holding onto scraps & memories from their relationship, like she is.
