Control is so important. I have catastrophic / reactive T of more than 20 years standing. My maskers don't really mask it, they just blend with it to make a slightly different noise. I use them only because they give me some sense of control - at least that component of the noise I can turn up / down, switch off entirely.

How do you deal with it? Mine is killing me, sometimes I think about ending it all. What's causing it? Sinusitis is killing me 😭

@@macstreamer8943 Honestly, even at 23 years in, dealing with it remains extremely difficult, and gets harder because as I grow older my hearing declines a bit more and T fills the gaps. My T is also very much a moving target, both in where it is located spacially in my head, as well as the sound(s). The only answer I have is that I deal with it day by day. My current hearing aids are good - in the UK good aids with bluetooth and maskers, together with good audiology services, are free at the point of supply under the NHS. I can't say that I deal with it well, and I have tried many approaches over the years. As is true for many of us, nights are the worst, and there is nothing to be done about them in my case. Background noise simply makes my reactive T worse, and I can't get along with the SleepBand kind of device. I am convinced that, though T is bad for all of us, the extent of our suffering from it is governed largely by our personalities and circumstances of life. Some people with the very worst T just happen to cope very well - some with minor T are driven to distraction. Best wishes. Sorry I can't be more help.

@@macstreamer8943 Hello. I wrote a fairly long reply. It is not appearing here yet - maybe it never will. Sorry. KZbin comments are now no use for serious discussion, - every grown-up idea is censored. There was no bad language, no cross-reference to any dark thoughts you may have spoken of, no external links. Maybe this comment won't appear either. I tried.
