What I find most impressive with Maynard's lyricism is that even in a straightforward song as this, he paints a beautifully ironic picture of the "boy" as a great set up. Name brand jeans, Beastie merchandise, and drinking Coca-Cola while making his point. Even the tatts and nipple rings on this fella are him selling his image as an anti-authoritarian anarchist, thus ironically doing the very opposite. Even the fact his claim of them selling out has to be based of Undertow of all albums, considering this album wasn't out yet - that alone outs the boy as more of a try hard contrarian, and speaks to the nature of consumerism and the hypocrisy that festers within. Maynard could find depth in watching grass grow... oh wait, he kind of does with "Disposition."

No sir you are wrong, tool did sell out, that is the point, we are all sell outs. Tool in the song sells their musical talent and creativity, in return they get fame and money. The boy in the song sells his image, the man is literally a billboard for main brands, in return he gets "?popularity?". The point here is we are all sell outs "Hookers with a penis", what separates us is what we sell and what we get in return. What do you sell? Your image, your talent, your labor? Are you getting an equal or greater return for what you sell?

in talking about the sound and tone of the music, It sounds much more like their earlier mateial to me. Itys more loose as you pointed out. Its one of my favorite Aenima tracks because of how it stands out among more contemporary material on Aenima and more modern tool material. That said, I do prefer Tools more recent sound. but this song is one of the last songs they made that has the raw teeth of tools earlier sound and I love that about it.
