I prefer Sally Simpson on this too. Pinball Wizard - hmm. Elton John's piano is something else, but the album version is cleaner.
@TaraTara-ld2xb4 жыл бұрын
valar Personally, as impressive as "Pinball Wizard" is on guitar, I'm more impressed by it being played on piano. I think guitar is a harder instrument to play (I think violin' s the most difficult, but I digress...), overall, but this particular song seems more difficult on piano, for some reason.

I get the impression from this film, that the story was all about a young boy being brought up & being subjected as a 'blind follower' to many influences, paths & false idols. Whether it be, his martyred father in the air force, his 'uncles Frank & Ernie', the idolatry of Marilyn Monroe in a pseudo-church cult, the Acid Queen & later with himself as a self-professed messiah, of pinball games, before finally finding God. And the lyrics to "See Me, Feel Me/Listening to You" sound like a Christian worship song... a very powerful prayer/love song to God.

Yes, you're right. Tommy makes his way through all the bullshit and the people telling him he's the saviour to finding out he actually IS the saviour... I think it's heart-rending when he pays compliment to his dead parents for getting him as far as they did... And then he reveals his godlike status. It's an amazing and life-affirming rock opera. I think Pete is saying something very profound about humans here. We are all gods. The potential is in all of us.
@Smokler5 жыл бұрын
@@jesusmind1611 It is also very hard to NOT see a song about hero worship and one way devotion as a metaphor for the relationship between musician and fan, a relationship Pete Townsend was deeply critical of and uncomfortable with.

Not really…in my opinion the whole story was one of self-enlightenment. The whole concept of religion was rejected when he toppled “Mary” in the church. In the end, he was alone, and his own higher power depicted in this scene was himself.

Oh my Goddess, you sync the thumbs of the final screen with the song! 😊
It’s interesting how this movie and the musical version have two very different endings with the same song. In the musical- Tommy’s followers leave him and Tommy sings this song as he Embraces his family. In this movie- since his family is a bunch of evil evil people- this song is more about Tommy and accepting himself.
