I agree with you its bizarre that she insinuates that he resigned as PM because of these talks and that currently Canada is without a PM. Totally ignores the fact that much of the country wanted to see him gone before the Tariff talk became a real issue. I wanted to see him gone - still do - glad to see him acknowledge that he couldn't win the approaching federal election. But he is still the PM, and his response to this situation has been okay with me. I saw Poilievre's speech last night and it was devoid of conviction or feeling - I think there is a lane for whoever comes out of the Liberal leadership race to make serious gains nationally. We do have a PM Diane. He has been working diligently with the provincial premiers to counter the Trump tariffs. Parliament has been prorogue but the government is still working. Retaliatory tariffs were just announced. Trump’s purpose in imposing tariffs is to raise money to alleviate the massive US deficit so that he can in turn cut taxes for his wealthy friends and partners like he did during his first term. The man is smart, well spoken, calm, not afraid to call Trump out and he has vast experience at negotiating economic turmoil in the past since he was Gov. of the Bank of Canada in 2008 and also shepherded the U.K. through the turmoil after Brexit. Even Carney can't re-elect the Liberals. At most he could prevent a Conservative majority. He was anti-Brexit, and has shown good judgement throughout his career. Even Danielle Smith says we should pursue other markets, so I think Carney can be a very productive Opposition Leader in working across the aisle for non-US trade.

In terms of values, attitudes and behaviour Canada is far more similar to Europe than the US. We would all benefit from such an alliance. The US wants to isolate and we need to insulate.
